Heartist 2022 Book

Heartfulness CONNECTS US WITH why it matters. MINDFULNESS HELPS US NOTICE WHAT REALLY MATTERS. Mindfulness is a way of being. A way of being awake. It is the ability to pay attention, on purpose, in the present moment and without judgement. And heartfulness helps us go even deeper. Mindfulness helps us choose what we pay attention to, so our minds aren’t hijacked by unhelpful thoughts, and it helps us really notice our experience – it helps us bring more curiosity, openness and acceptance to every moment. It helps us notice who we really are, what we are feeling and make more deliberate choices about what we think, feel, say and do. And it helps us tune in to what is happening around us, for others. Heartfulness takes this even further. In fact, in some Asian countries, the word for mindfulness is the same as the word for heart. Dr Stephen McKenzie, psychologist and author, says that heartfulness is about connecting with ourselves fully, so that we can experience life even more fully. And this makes us feel more connected, more fulfilled and more contented too. If mindfulness helps us listen, heartfulness connects us to why we are listening. And when Heartists listen heartfully, we are listening to really understand what the other person is thinking and feeling.

TERMS

ACT IVELY COMPASSIONATE

Compassion is not about passively feeling sorry for someone. It is about seeing a need and doing something about it, fuelled by empathy and kindness.

MINDFULNESS

Being mindful is the opposite to mindless. It is awareness that comes from paying attention to the present moment, without judgement.

Heartfulness allows us to be who we really are. Heartists.
