Do you strive to win arguments? Do you keep arguing even if you start to doubt your own viewpoint? Do you get very emotional or angry when people don’t agree with your opinions and beliefs? Do you believe your opinions and beliefs are universal truths or facts? Do you insist on having the last word in an argument? Do you refuse to back down, no matter what? If you answered yes to any of the above, you may be a right-fighter – but the great news is now you know, you can do something about it. ARE YOU A RIGHT-FIGHTER?

First of all don’t beat yourself up about it. Be gentle with yourself.

Take some time to quietly think about why you need to be right. What is the fear behind your fight? What is your self-talk ? Gently remind yourself that you are valued and valuable. Start to imagine what conflict would be like if you could allow others to hold opinions different to yours, without bad feelings. Remind yourself, feeling valued, feeling cared for, feels so much more wonderful than feeling right. And if you know a right-fighter, be gentle not judgemental. Compassionately show them they’re valued, and you’ll be surprised how quickly you can move them from feeling wrong, to feeling connected.
