THE

Vile Victorians! Role play day

HARD LIFE The children in Year One enjoyed a brilliant day travelling back in time to the Victorian era. The morning was split into three activities with Miss Donnelly, (female teachers were not allowed to get married) acting as the strict Victorian teacher in the school room. Miss Gill and Ms Rouse helped children to make their own bread roll in the bakery. The third activity was in the gymnasium, where children practised Victorian ‘drill’ - a series of instructed exercise. During the afternoon, the children took part in Victorian activities, making paper chains; playing with Victorian toys; making a stick Punch & Judy puppet and playing parlour games, such as charades. A great experience was had by all but we were happy to be back to ‘normal’ the following day! It certainly helped children to understand how fortunate they are and how much harder Victorian life was for children of their age. Thanks to Mrs. Donnelly for the story. [Ed - Happy New Year and welcome back to all of our children and families]
