Royal Stables, Leibniz University, Hanover, Germany Interior: Leibniz University’s real estate management team Photos: Frank Schinski

For many years, the erstwhile royal stables were used as a workshop by the mechanical engineering faculty. After the department moved into a new build, the university was able to transform the building, which enjoys protected architectural status, into a communications and meeting hub for the sciences, arts and industry. The modern furnishing in the multifunctional ceremonial hall, the offices and the workshop and seminar space, creates a link between the past and future.

The stables’ typical brickwork dating back to 1888 has been carefully restored. Modern technology is used inside and evident in the storage area for the space-saving, stackable seating (from the Aline range, design: Andreas Störiko).
