and high-quality surface treatments for plastics. With a dedicated R&D department working closely with production and customers, we help molders bring new ideas to market faster, solve technical challenges, and stay ahead of evolving environmental regulations. Whether it’s testing new plastic materials, developing new products, or optimizing adhesion on complex geometries, our lab-to-line approach creates real value for the plastic industry. Meeting the shift from metal to plastic More and more often, we are approached by customers looking to replace traditional metal components with plastic ones - without sacrificing the premium feel, metallic appearance, or functional properties of metal. In many cases, these components still need to offer surface conductivity, thermal resistance, mechanical durability, or EMI shielding. Whether it’s for decorative trim in vehicles, fittings in plumbing systems, or technical housings in electronics, our plating on plastic technology bridges this gap - combining the design freedom and weight reduction of plastic with the surface performance of metal. With our plating on plastic expertise, we help with maintaining visual and tactile appeal, reducing weight and cost, supporting recyclability and sustainability goals, retaining functional properties such as conductivity, thermal resistance, or surface hardness and enabling design freedom for components that must look like metal – and sometimes act like it too. One example is our ongoing collaboration with a customer to expand the range of plastics suitable for plating. Together, we are testing various materials — including 3D-printed plastics and other specialty polymers — to see how they can meet both visual and technical requirements. By exploring alternative plastic materials, we aim to unlock new benefits such as improved temperature resistance, enhanced mechanical strength, better chemical durability, and compatibility with lightweight or complex geometries. This allows our customers to replace heavier metal components while maintaining key functional properties and achieving a premium metallic surface.
■ Provexa is one of the leading surface treatment companies in the Nordics, with over 100 employees and a total of 18,000 square meters of production space. Provexa offers surface treatment on both metal and plastics. The group consists of two specialized companies - Provexa Surface Treatment and Provexa Technology – often working together to deliver high- performance and sustainable surface treatment solutions. With an in-house R&D department and a turnover of approximately SEK 180 million, Provexa supports demanding industries such as automotive, defence, plumbing, electronics and deep tech with both large-scale production and advanced process development. ■ We will be exhibiting at Alihankinta 2025 – a great opportunity to meet and discuss sustainable surface treatments for plastic components.
