M3 AND ME

MEET OUR PATIENT CARE COORDINATOR, KAREN! I GREET EVERYONE WITH A SMILE!

I enjoy socializing with others, and this position would allow me to communicate with patients and understand how a clinic operates.

Hi newsletter friends! I’m Karen, the patient care coordinator at M3 PT in West LA. I’m the middleman between our therapists and patients. I help patients schedule their appointments, greet them when they come inside, and answer any of their questions or concerns in person or over the phone. I enjoy my job because I think our patients’ first experience

What surprised me the most about my role was the variety of people that come into the office. Before working here, I thought older adults primarily sought out physical therapy. But

in our office starts with those working the front desk. I am one of the first and last people they see, and I want to leave a positive, lasting impression on them. Being personable, warm, and kind are the characteristics I want to convey to our patients and make them feel welcomed. Many of our patients mention that we aren’t like other clinics for this reason. We greet everyone who walks through our front doors by first name and with a smile on our faces. First impressions are everything, and I’m happy to know that my role at the front desk is adding to their experience. I began working at M3 PT last June, and before coming here, I’d never worked in this industry. While taking classes at UCLA, I knew I wanted to go into the therapy field. At first, I wanted to go into psychiatry. But over the pandemic, I began to rethink my options and decided to take another

surprisingly, we have a lot of kids and younger adults coming in. It showed me that anyone at any age could need help. If you’re dealing with pain, it’s best to come in early before it worsens. We have several patients who’ve been with us for years and continue to use our services to help treat their pain. Although my hands aren’t doing the healing on our patients, it’s gratifying when a patient leaves our clinic and tells me how they’re not in pain anymore. For example, we’ve had a woman coming to us, and she told me how she dealt with pain for 10 years, and now she doesn’t have to deal with it anymore. It’s motivating to hear how we are helping our patients in their day-to- day lives. I’m happy that I’m contributing to that by scheduling their appointments and ensuring they get the care they deserve.

I want to thank everyone at M3 PT for the incredible opportunity and for allowing me to be a part of their lives and our patients’ lives. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me as I pursue my speech therapy career and continue to greet our amazing patients at the clinic.

career route. I took several linguistics and phonetics classes in college and loved them. I enjoyed the information I was learning and chose to pursue a career in speech therapy. But since I had never worked in this field before, I knew I needed to gain experience interacting with patients. So, I began looking for jobs online and found M3 PT. As soon as I read the description for the desk job, I knew it would be perfect for me and my personality.

SOAK IN THE SUN WITH NO WORRIES

The best part of summer vacation is definitely spending time at the beach. It’s a great place to relax while soaking in the sun and dipping your toes in the water. One thing that can be a hassle, though, is protecting your valuables. With so much traffic on the sand, it’s an easy place for someone to scoop up a bag or snag a phone that’s sitting on a towel. Here are a few helpful tips to keep your valuables safe while you enjoy the beach. The Pros of the Lifeguard Tower Something as simple as sitting near a lifeguard tower can deter potential thieves. Since lifeguards have a clear view of the area, they’ll be able to spot suspicious-looking people who are creeping too close to your belongings. If there isn’t a tower nearby, consider sitting near a pier. Your items are less likely to be stolen where there are more witnesses. Waterproof Accessories Who says you can’t be stylish on the beach? Wearing a waterproof waist pouch or carrying a waterproof dry bag can create a greater sense of security. Knowing your valuables are right there floating with you can ease your mind. You could even bury your waterproof bag in the sand for extra protection. Protect Your Belongings

Disguising Valuables One great way to hide smaller valuables, like keys or cash, is to disguise them in food packages. Items such as Cheez-It boxes or cans of Pringles are a sneaky way to divert attention away from your belongings. If someone just so happens to creep by your spot, it’s unlikely they’ll grab a snack as they look for valuables to steal. Someone to Watch Your Belongings If you don’t have acquaintances nearby, find someone who appears trustworthy to watch over your things — families with children may be a safe option. This isn’t an ideal tactic, since it requires you to have a bit of trust in human kindness from a complete stranger. Or you could possibly leave belongings at a restaurant or bar you frequent. Spending vacation at the beach doesn’t need to be stressful. The risk will always be there, but these options can reduce the chances of someone stealing your valuables and can ease your mind while you relax.

WANT TO IMPROVE YOUR OVERALL HEALTH?

TRY HULA-HOOPING!

to work on the flexibility of your joints. It’s a low-impact exercise, which is excellent for those with joint conditions such as arthritis. The circular motion you do to keep the hoop around your waist helps loosen stiff joints and improves your range of motion overall. 3. Strengthens core strength. The rotation motion tones and builds core strength. Improving your core muscles will also help your posture. You will be able to stand straighter and stabilize your hips and legs easier during workouts, therapy sessions, and daily tasks. You can target different areas of your back by controlling how high or low the hoop is on your waist — which will strengthen your joints in order to keep your back straight.

If you think hula-hooping is only an activity for kids, think again! If you’re looking for a way to mix up your workout routine, give this activity a spin. This circular item has tons of benefits for your body, and you can have fun while doing it! Here are four benefits of hula-hooping that will enhance your overall health. 1. Improves your balance and posture. Since your whole body is at work when keeping the hoop moving, hula-hooping will improve your balance and posture. The motion encourages you to move your hips, which can help strengthen those joints. But it’s also exercising your calves, quads, and hamstrings, and it strengthens muscles that support your back. 2. Provides greater flexibility. Moving your body as you flex your muscles while hula-hopping is a safe and effective way

cardiovascular exercises work your heart and lungs. They also improve the flow of oxygen through your body. By hula-hooping, you build your cardiovascular health and lower your heart disease risk. You also improve your cholesterol levels and brain functions and reduce stress. The best part is that hula-hooping is an inexpensive activity, and you can do it with your friends and family. Some supermarkets have hula-hoops, but they only have sizes for children. But you can purchase an adult hula hoop online and get weighted ones to build extra strength and mobility. If you have any questions about this activity, contact M3 PT, and we can help you figure out if hula-hooping is right for you and recommend exercises you can try.

It’s Hard to Stay Active While Working 3 Strategies to Remain Healthy at Work

muscles, which will protect your lower back and improve your posture.

to grab a snack from a vending machine at your workplace or wander around your kitchen for something salty and sweet. Instead, bring healthy snacks with you to work or keep them stocked in your pantry. Fruits, vegetables, and nuts are a great source of energy. Nuts like cashews and fruits like apple slices or grapes are highly portable. If you’re looking for something crunchy, carrots and celery with peanut butter, hummus, or plain will do the trick. Upgrade your chair. Sitting in a chair all day leaves you in a static posture, which increases stress on your back, neck, shoulders, and legs. Some suggest standing more often while at work, but standing for prolonged periods also has negative health implications, including poor circulation and pain in your neck, shoulders, hips, and back. Investing in a comfortable and ergonomic chair to keep your body correctly aligned throughout the day is best. Exercise balls are also an excellent substitute for a chair because you can engage your core

Get up and move around. Getting stuck in your seat for hours is easy, especially when you feel comfortable in your working area. Remaining in a sedentary position can put stress on your body, so get up at least every hour and stretch. Walk around your office building or neighborhood to work your body and get some sunshine. If you have meetings over the phone or with coworkers, ask if they would like to have a walking meeting while you discuss your topics. This will help you remain active and not feel as restless. Whether you’re working remotely or back in the office, these tips will help you remain healthy and improve your posture and joints. If you have any questions about other strategies you can implement in your work routine, contact your friends at M3 PT. We will be happy to help in any way we can.

Many people are now working remotely from home. Although there are benefits, remote work can present challenges — especially for your health. Here are three strategies to remain healthy while working from home. If you’re returning to the office, these tips will also help you improve your health and motivation! Stock up on healthy snacks. Even if you’re not active in your office space, your body needs proper nutrition and hydration to function efficiently. It’s tempting

3 MOST BEAUTIFUL RESTAURANTS IN AMERICA

WHERE THE VIEW IS PART OF THE MENU …

Most people can have a good meal at home, so if you have the time and money, why not pay a little extra for a nice view? Go ahead and indulge. We won’t judge — we’ll even be a little jealous!

Cecconi’s Dumbo mentioned among the best. Located in Brooklyn Bridge Park, your table might have dramatic views of the bridge or a waterfront view of the Manhattan skyline. It’s the best possible pairing with their classic Italian menu, complete with handmade pasta and high-end ingredients from Italy. The French Laundry — Yountville, California If there’s a contest for the best food and views offered by a restaurant in America, this three-star Michelin restaurant just might place first. Run by Thomas Keller, its rustic, cottage-like setting in Napa Valley always turns heads with its surprisingly sophisticated design (as well as its exclusive tasting menus!). The restaurant’s gardens are beautifully lit and dotted with Japanese maple trees — a sight that will blow you away.

When you go to a nice restaurant, you’re not just paying for food — you’re also paying for an experience. Decor might be the last thing on a guest’s mind, but with the right design, some restaurants are absolutely breathtaking. Here are a few of our favorites. Pink Cadillac Diner — Natural Bridge, Virginia Taking a step into this restaurant feels like stepping straight into the 1950s … in all the best ways possible. The diner’s bold, beautiful shades of bubblegum pink — including a vintage pink Cadillac parked in front — prompt nostalgia and delight. Accompanied with a classic burger and ice cream diner menu, this East Coast gem is a destination you won’t want to miss. Cecconi’s Dumbo — New York City There are plenty of gorgeous restaurants in the Big Apple, but you’ll always hear
