Will the fundamentals of the MBA change in the next 10 years? Back in 2019, 76% of Business leaders in a pre-Covid-19 survey from AMBA & BGA said it was ‘very likely’ or ‘fairly likely’. The same question was posed to participants in the AMBA & BGA Education Technology Research , in association with Barco, and 83% said it was ‘very likely’ or ‘fairly likely’ that the fundamentals of an MBA will change over the next decade – an increase of seven percentage points. A mere 2% are now of the belief that significant change is ‘very unlikely’. What are the barriers to embedding online education into full-time MBA programmes? Major barriers faced by Business School leaders in the delivery of online education include connection issues from students (cited by 85% of respondents); lack of student engagement (73%); changing the design of programmes to make them suitable for students; and connection issues from educators (55%). Three quarters (73%) of Business School leaders believe the biggest problem with online teaching is transforming courses to fit an online format. Other problems frequently cited by survey participants include gaining feedback from students on their understanding (cited by 52% of respondents). However, only 15% of Business School leaders see the cost of subscriptions as a challenge to rolling out online education, while 14% cite the cost of training at their School as a challenge. When invited to suggest other potential barriers, answers included relationship building with cohorts, examinations, and difficulties integrating new systems within an existing IT infrastructure. Of course, many of these issues could, it seems, be relatively quickly and

easily rectified with training, stronger network connections, and strategic collaboration with technology providers to ascertain hurdles fast, and address them proportionately, as Business Schools continue to adopt new learning
approaches and increase their use of edtech over the coming years.
