Empowering Small Practices to Deliver the Best Care
COMPANY CULTURE ISN’T A MYTH IT’S THE INSPIRATION FOR GREAT WORK
No matter how much (or how little) of our monthly newsletter you might read, you’re likely well aware that at AZCOMP, we like to talk about our core values. We’ve got 11 of them, so there’s a lot to talk about. But I truly believe these core values allow our employees to do great work, which, in turn, translates to delivering phenomenal work to our clients (also one of our core values). This portion of our newsletter usually examines our business services and how they’re useful for our clients, but I think there’s a lot of usefulness in giving an inside look at how our core values affect our culture, and ultimately, the work we do. As the finance and human resource manager, I see a different side of our operations than most others do. I have interactions with clients from an accounting standpoint rather than a technical standpoint, and much of my work also involves direct interaction with our internal team. I’m coming up on my sixth year at AZCOMP, and it’s been such a pleasure to witness the many different ways the company has grown. I’m passionate in my belief that happy employees are more creative, efficient, and open. If you give them the chance to speak up, they will, and past experience tells me that giving someone the chance to feel like they’re being heard paves the way for feeling like they’re a part of the team. That makes them want to be productive for their clients and their company. That’s a wide net to cast, but it was well worth the effort. It’s incredible how loving where you work positively effects the work you do. That realization takes a lot of planning, reworking, and
time to get just right. But once you’re there, you start to notice big waves everywhere in your business.
AZCOMP empowers its employees by giving them the tools, space, and mindset they need to succeed. Our core values are useful tools, our office space is conducive to creativity, and we always welcome input and ideas from everyone. But my favorite thing that happens amid all of this is that our team has become a family. We all feel a sense of ease and reliability in each other, but that doesn’t just go for our “work family.” We all have jobs to support our families, so why not bring them into it? All our families know each other, some spend time together, and overall, we all care about each other. We have a culture of unity, both inside and outside our walls, and it makes for a really great place to work.
So what does this mean for our clients? It means that you can have full faith in the work we do for you. I already mentioned it, but it’s worth mentioning again: I truly believe that happy employees lead to great work because AZCOMP has shown me that it’s true. All of our clients can know they’re getting great work and services from our team because our team is truly happy with the work they do. –Jana Flewellen

switch off any that are unnecessary. It’ll save you battery life and operating space, but most importantly, having fewer notifications pop up will save you from distraction. Track Your Usage It’s easy to underestimate how much time you’re actually spending on your phone because it’s likely in short bursts throughout the day. But those few minutes can add up to more time than you realize. Download a phone-usage app to track where you’re spending the most and least of your time. This way, you’ll know what you can get rid of and what you need to be more conscious about using too frequently. Cleaning up the way you use your phone is just as important as cleaning up what’s actually on your phone. It’s easy to get bogged down by the clutter on our devices these days, but if you take some time to clean them out, you’ll feel the freedom that results. SPRING-CLEAN YOUR SMARTPHONE NEED NETWORKING OR COMPUTER HELP?
Spring-cleaning means decluttering our lives of the things that we don’t use, need, or want, and your smartphone should be included in this annual activity! Here are three ways to clean out your phone and make more time and space for the things you actually use. Get Delete-Happy Delete apps that don’t provide you any value. Do you have old games you don’t play? Delete them. Also, go through your music library and delete songs you don’t listen to. They’re easy to download again if you want them back. There are likely pictures on your phone that you could do without or that can be moved elsewhere. Scroll through your gallery, delete photos you don’t want, and upload those you do want to your computer for safe, long-term storage. Push (Away) Notifications Some notifications are important to have, but most aren’t. For instance, you don’t need to be reminded of someone’s birthday if you barely speak to them. Dig into your notification settings and

Mady earned a degree in information technology because she’s always been interested in problem-solving and troubleshooting. She likes that her coworkers feel the same way. “Everyone truly cares about their work and checks their egos at the door. It feels great to be part of a shared bigger picture.” Outside work, Mady and her husband like to take hikes with their dog, go paddleboarding, and watch movies. When you walk by Bellwether on Colfax Avenue in Denver, Colorado, it looks like your average craft coffee shop. You might walk right on by because if you’ve seen one coffee shop, you’ve seen them all, right? Well, Bellwether’s answer to that question is a resounding “No!” Bellwether does serve some fantastic local coffee, but they offer much more. They’re also a neighborhood craft cocktail bar, a business workspace, a clothing store, and a barber shop. It’s got something for everyone, and that’s exactly the intention behind the years of brainstorming and development that Bellwether’s founders put into the space before opening its doors. When the business began in 2015, it was a private venue. But that business model didn’t quite sit right with them. They soon realized they wanted to create a space where people could feel comfortable and inspired but also like part of a community. So they opened their doors to the public and haven’t looked back since. Denver is a rapidly growing city with hundreds of niche shops, restaurants, and services, so instead of choosing a single one that focused on one type of consumer, Bellwether sought to create a space that could bring multiple types of businesses together and, thus, multiple types of people together. Bellwether is open to anyone to enjoy, but they do offer a membership with enticing perks. For $10 a month, members can enjoy $1 drip coffee all day, happy-hour pricing on cocktails all day, free use of their printers, commercial-grade Wi-Fi access, invitations to special events, and a $50 tab to enjoy on their birthday. For those who frequent coffee shops and bars or who need a productive space to work, this deal is hard to pass up. Above all, Bellwether is a space where people come together. It has something for everyone to enjoy and provides a way for patrons to build connections and relationships. You might go to Bellwether for their products and services, but you stay for the sense of community. BELLWETHER BRINGS THE COMMUNITY TOGETHER With a 1-Stop-Shop Mindset
The time and money it can take to properly clean your eyeglasses can be tedious, and most people don’t know how to do the job properly, which can lead to damage. But Peeps takes the guesswork and grunt work out of it. They’re the safest and most-tested lens cleaning technology on the market, by way of their groundbreaking invisible microfiber formula that uses carbon molecular technology to remove dirt and dust on a microscopic level. Every time you replace the tool in its carrying case, the friction on the pads recharges the carbon molecules so you can get up to 500 cleans. It’s the same lens cleaning technology used by NASA. Peeps cleans lenses four times faster than cleaning pads or cloths and guarantees to make your lenses as clean as the day you bought them. Its design sandwiches the lens to clean both sides at the same time, and your fingers never get near them. They’re the efficient, thorough, and cost-effective solution we’ve been waiting for.
MARK DIVINE’S ‘STARING DOWN THE WOLF’ ‘7 Leadership Commitments That Forge Elite Teams’
Former Navy SEAL and The New York Times bestselling author Mark Divine is back with “Staring Down the Wolf: 7 Leadership Commitments That Forge Elite Teams.” The book focuses on harnessing the principles of purpose and discipline to achieve success. The prominent question he poses throughout the book is this: What does it take to command a team of elite individuals? Using principles learned on the battlefield, during his training with SEALs, and through his own time spent as an entrepreneur, Divine proposes that there are seven distinct
principles leaders must commit to before individuals will follow them and trust their decisions: courage, trust, respect, growth, excellence, resilience, and alignment. He illustrates the culture of an elite team and details the pitfalls that many companies have faced because their leaders did not have these principles. Above all, Divine writes that the most elite teams challenge themselves every single day to do what’s uncommon. This is the only way to truly thrive. He details his own failures and successes over 25 years of working on a variety of ventures and proves that without good leadership, a business has no hope of growing. This is not a motivational book but rather a strict framework for how to develop resilience and grit. “To live an uncommon life, one needs to learn uncommon disciplines,” Divine writes. “Staring Down the Wolf” strives to teach the reader how to do just that.

By Liz THE INSPIRATION OF INNOVATORS
There are leading innovators in every industry who are working on building the future of their field. At AZCOMP, it could be leaders in technology, and for others, it could be new voices in food, architecture, or transportation. When it comes to the clothing industry, the leaders we often think of are those who innovate fashion trends. But at a clothing company like Vollebak, building the future goes far beyond style. Vollebak uses groundbreaking science to create clothing that’s more technological and experimental than any other clothing brand. They have jackets that are fire-resistant and solar- powered, pants that will withstand wear for a century, and T-shirts made from the most durable materials on the planet. But what I think they’re most noteworthy for is how they pay attention to the necessity for sustainable clothing.
incinerated. That means only about 20% of clothing is reused or recycled. The rest piles up and pollutes the planet because it doesn’t degrade or takes far too long to do so. So Vollebak is pushing sustainable clothing design by providing innovative solutions. They’re making shirts out of plants and algae that you can wear for as long as you’d like, and when you want to get rid of it, you simply bury it. It’s fully biodegradable and disappears into the ground in 12 weeks. Inventions like these are still new and experimental, which means they’re pricey. It may not be practical for people to buy a biodegradable T-shirt for $100, but what makes Vollebak inspiring is they’re leading the charge in addressing a critical concern in their industry. When it comes to AZCOMP’s core values, Vollebak undoubtedly “Surfs Jaws” every day. Their goal is to innovate, improve, and show others why it’s important to do so in everything we do too.
Here’s a staggering statistic: Globally, about 80% of discarded textiles go to landfills or are
