nothing of interest to her. Have you ever known people who were like Sally? They didn’t get anything out o f reading the Bible. . They did not receive any blessing out of going to church. To them it was a loss of time. You are wondering why Sam Sack gets something out of the Bible. It is be cause he is right on the inside. When the heart is right with God, then a per son can find wonderful things in the Bible. In thinking of this brother and sister, I am reminded of what happened in the days of Nehemiah and Ezra. Ezra the priest had read the Word o f God to the people. In Nehemiah 8:12 we read, “ And all the people went their way to eat, and to drink, and to send portions, and to make great mirth, be cause they had understood the words that were declared unto them.” Objects: A capital “ R” and a pair of scissors. (Make the “ R” by using a piece of white paper 8% x 11 inches. Fold the long way, making the size 5% x 8% inches. Place the 5% inch side nearest you with the fold to the left. Cut from the bottom Yz inch from the fold up 5 Yi inches. From this point cut 1% inches at right angle. From here slant down to the lower right-hand corner, making the right leg of the “ R.” This leg should be Yz inch wide. From the top of this leg, continue the curve of the “ R” to within Yz inch of the right side of the paper. The curve o f the “ R” should be 1 inch wide, mak ing the opening 1 Yi inches deep. Color both the front and back black. Open the “ R” and color the center red from top to bottom. Color the center cross bar red out as far as the inside o f the slanting legs. This makes a red cross in the center.) August 20, 1950 L e a r n in g A b o u t a L e t t e r

is in the vineyard of Naboth, whither he is gone down to possess it. And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith the Lord, Hast thou killed, and also taken possession? . . . In the place where dogs licked the blood o f Naboth shall dogs lick thy blood.” In Numbers 32:23 we read, “ Be sure your sin will And you out.”

Object: A piece of paper 8 % x l l inches, or larger if visibility requires. (Fold each end to within Y, inch of the middle, leaving a gap of Yz inch. Objects: A common paper sack, fancy paper sack, a Bible, some bright nails, new tacks, a magnet and a piece of iron. (Conceal the magnet in the common sack, and the piece o f iron in the other. Have the Bible open on the table, with the nails and tacks scattered over the open pages.)

Lesson: Down the center of this black piece of paper we see the sin “ GREED” written. This is a terrible sin and was found in the life o f King Ahab. It means to eagerly desire something that belongs to another. King Ahab wanted the vineyard which belonged to a man by the name of Na both, who refused to sell it. He went home and pouted about the matter, re fusing to eat or drink. His wicked wife Jezebel took matters into her own hands and through false witnesses had Na both condemned and stoned to death. She then told her wicked husband to go and take the vineyard. We see in this lesson the terrible ef fect of greed or covetousness when we realize that a man was murdered to sat isfy Ahab’s sinful desires. When we open the flaps on this paper we shall see what happened. We read, “ GOD UNCOVERS SINNER’S EVIL DEEDS.” This is exactly what hap pened then, and it is what happens in the day in which we live. The wicked king went, as his wife suggested, to take the vineyard. “ And it came to pass, when Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, that Ahab arose up to go down to the vineyard o f Naboth the Jezreelite, to take possession of it” (1 Kings 21:16). In verses 17 to 19 we are told what happened. “ And the word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, Arise, go down to meet Ahab, king of Israel, which is in Samaria: beheld, he J U L Y , 1 9 5 0

Lesson: I brought two friends of mine with me this morning. Here they are. What do you think their last name is? “ SACK,” I hear several saying. You are right. One is a boy, and the other a girl. Which one do you think is Sally? Yes, she is the fancy-looking one. Sam is rather plain looking, but when you know them both, you will agree with me that he is much wiser than she. We often make mistakes because we judge by the outward appearance of people. If they have fine clothes, we are apt to think they are better than those who may not be able to buy fancy clothes. Sam and Sally are different in their looks, but this is not the only difference. They are different with regard to the Bible. Here on the table is an open Bible. When Sam comes to the Bible, he gets something out of it. Look at the things he has found in the Bible. We will see whether or not Sally can find anything in the Bible. Not a thing! She comes to the Bible, but can find

Lesson: Who can guess what this big black “ R” stands for? I think I had better tell you that it may stand for two words—either re pentance or ruin. When Jesus was on earth, He said, “ Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish” (Luke 13:5). If people do not repent they will perish. Of John the Baptist, it is said, “ And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism o f repentance for the re mission of sins” (Luke 3 :3 ). Some people think all that is neces sary to be saved is to get rid of part Page Thirty-three
