happy wedding, and now was standing in sadness at the foot of the cross, watching Him die for the sins of the world. She, doubtless, knew better than any other one present, except Christ, what was happening. The last word is “ PRAYER.” Just be fore the day of Pentecost the followers o f Christ were gathered together in an upper room. In Acts 1:14 we are told, “ These all continued with one acoord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.” Mary had gone through glad and sad experiences with her Son, and now we find her gathered with those who prayed. It is wise to pray regardless o f the ex periences through which we have passed. is these results that make up for the occasional setbacks and convince the Los Angeles Mission that it is en gaged in the most worth-while work in the world. It requires love and patience and faith to keep it up, un tiringly, unceasingly, day after day, night after night, year after year. Supported by the free-will offerings of God’s people, there is never enough money to accomplish all the staff would like to do for the men. But it is a work that pays huge dividends for time and eternity, and the work ers refuse to consider the toll such strenuous and sometimes depressing service takes of their lives and health, for with all their hearts they believe the reassuring words: “ Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord” (1 Cor. 15:58). "Heaven Around the Corner" (Continued from Page 11) The Press and the Christian World (Continued from Page 17) it was quite clear that General Mac- Arthur’s hope for Japan was a new spiritual foundation, and the Bible is of great importance in helping to lay that foundation. of their sins. We will cut some of the “ R” away. (Cut half of the slanting leg off.) This is not sufficient. We will cut still more off. (Cut the rest o f the leg off, through the circle just inside the slanting leg, and again where the top of the circle meets the upright. Open and find the cross.) We now have a red cross, reminding us o f the blood of Christ. We will see what we can do with the pieces we have cut off. (The pieces from the circle, reversed and put together, make an “ S,” and the 4 pieces from the right leg, make the letters “ I” and “ N.” Pin them on the cross and spell “ SIN.” ) When we truly repent, our sins are on Christ. ' The word “ REPENTANCE” means to turn from sin and turn to Christ for salvation. Object: A piece of paper 8% x 11 inches, or larger if visibility requires. (Fold each end to within % inch of the middle, leaving a gap of % inch. In this space print the word “ MARY.” Open the flaps and using the letters in the word “ MARY,” complete the follow ing words, “ MAGNIFY, MARRIAGE, CROSS and PRAYER.” ) August 27. 1950 M a r y ' s M o m e n t o u s M o m e n t s Lesson: On this white piece of paper we see the name “ MARY.” We will let this paper remind us o f some very im portant events in her life. When we open the flaps of this paper, the first word we see is “ MAGNIFY.” She spoke this word immediately after she had been told by the angel that she was to be Christ’s mother. In Luke 1:46-48 we read, “ And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden : for, behold, from hence forth all generations shall call me blessed.” By using the word “ MAG N IFY ” she showed how highly she re garded the Lord. The next word is “ MARRIAGE,” re minding us o f John 2 :1 : “ And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there.” It must have been a great mo ment in her life to be present jwhen her Son performed His first miracle in turn ing the water into wine. “ CROSS” is the next word of which we shall think. John 19:25 says, “ Now there stood by the cross o f Jesus his mother.” She had been with Him at a
