Noah's ark would have been equiv alent to about 500 railroad box cars. It was much larger and spa cious than most people realize. God had complete control of the ark at all times. Doubtless there would have been plenty of room for many more people if they had chosen to go. Although the offer was extended for 120 years they rejected God's grace and therefore suffered His judgment for which they had been warned. We learn that "the waters pre vailed upon the earth a hundred and fifty days (vs. 24). For five months the waters did not recede. A careful study of chapter 7 and 8 reveal that Noah spent a total of one year and 17 days inside the ark. Then he came out and built an altar to offer sacrifices to the Lord. God put a rainbow in the heavens to remind Him that this type of judgment would never hap- en again. Until recently we did not know of a possibility that the ark might still be in existence. In the days of the Babylonians they re corded that the ark was still to be found on a mountain in what was then Armenia. Josephus, the Jew ish historian contemporary with John, recorded essentially the same thing. Marco Polo in about 1300 observed the same. Within the last hundred years we have quite a few accounts of individuals who have seen the ark. We mentioned the Russians being up there in 1917. All the pictures and records were pre sumably destroyed with the Com munist revolution. Right after the second world war, a Swedish doc tor, born in Russia, was in Ger many. He met a friend who was in the Russian air force. The offi cer showed him some pictures
change our earthly bodies into those which are heavenly and like unto that of His own glorious body. The flood of Cod's judgment upon sinful mankind was universal. It covered the entire earth (vs. 19). If the water was high enough to cover Mt. Ararat in the land of Armenia (the present country of Turkey), it was also high enough to cover mountains in all parts of the world. Water does not pile up in heaps. In a coming day, too, God's judgment will be universal. Are you ready to meet Him? Are you living in such a manner that others may see the reality of Christ in your life? THE SEARCH FOR THE ARK Through the years a great deal of interest has been focalized on the possible location of Noah's ark. The flood covered the highest mountain of the world by some 221/2 feet according to my under standing of Genesis 7:20. There was no possibility that any men or animals were left alive (vs. 21). When Noah entered the ark he did not take any whales or fish of any kind. There was no need to. He only took the ones that lived on dry land. The big barge he had built was not as crowded as some people may think. The Bible says he took two of each kind. As an example, with dogs, that does not mean all of the different breeds, but two dogs, period. Immediately this cuts down the number of pos sibilities of what Noah had to have on board. Cod put within the crea tures He made the possibilities for endless varieties of all these breeds we now have; they all come from two original parents. It has been calculated that the capacity of
