Frequently Asked Questions

TM Why New EPA Refrigerant Regulations? In 2020, as part of a global agreement to reduce greenhouse gasses, the American Innovation and Manufacturing (AIM) Act gave the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) authority to regulate hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and begin the phase down of refrigerants with high HFCs by 2036. At that time, the current HVAC industry refrigerant, R-410A, was deemed a contributor to global warming and the EPA mandated that manufacturers switch to a refrigerant with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 700 or less by January 1, 2025. Is Low GWP R-454B Refrigerant Flammable? R-454B is classified as a mildly flammable (A2), but it’s safe when handled properly. It meets strict safety standards, so technicians can use it confidently with standard precautions. What are the current tax rebates being offered and how do they impact distributors and dealers? 91% of our R-410A heat pumps meet the qualifications for a $2,000 tax credit, the most tax-credit eligible furnaces in the industry. R-410A air conditioners, gas furnaces, and heat pumps qualify for a $600 credit. As more states secure funding, this creates a prime opportunity to drive demand throughout the transition. Stay on top of your state’s tax incentive programs by visiting the Department of Energy’s website.

What is the significance of sell-through rules? The EPA’s 2025 guidelines for products, systems, and components require adherence to sell-through and installation rules. If your teams have not fully grasped these guidelines, make this their top priority.
