Domestic Abuse Domestic Violence is where one person uses abuse to control and assert power over their partner in an intimate relationship. It can be Physical abuse, Emotional abuse, Sexual abuse or Financial abuse. Any person can be affected and it can happen in any home. There may be warning signs that your relationship is abusive. If you are, or think you may be in an abusive relationship, you can ring the Women's Aid National Freephone Helpline 1800 341 900 Sexual Consent A person consents to a sexual act if he or she freely and voluntarily agrees to engage in that act. A person cannot consent to a sexual act if they are forced or threatened; if they are asleep or unconscious; if they are incapable of consenting because of the effect of alcohol or drugs, if they do not understand the nature of the act or cannot communicate their free consent. Consent can be withdrawn at any time before or during a sexual act. Sex without consent is rape. Crisis Pregnancy An unplanned pregnancy may leave you feeling worried and confused. My Options is a HSE free phone line that provides free and confidential information and counselling to people experiencing an unplanned pregnancy. The helpline can provide you with information and support on all your options, including continued pregnancy supports and abortion services. This is a confidential service and if you don’t speak English they can provide you with an interpreter in your own language. Disability Services HSE Disability Services work in coordination with a range of voluntary services to provide care and training and development for children and adults with an intellectual, physical or sensory disability.
