The Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) This scheme provides early childhood care and education for children of pre-school age. Children can start ECCE when they are 2 years and 8 months of age and continue until they transfer to primary school (provided that they are not older than 5 years and 6 months at the end of the pre-school year).
In order to register your child for a free National Childcare Scheme (NCS) placement you must first obtain a MyGov account. If you are struggling to secure a pre-school/crèche placement for your child you can contact your local Childcare Committee for assistance. Primary & Secondary Education available but they can be very expensive. It is important to register your child or children with a local school as places can be limited. If your child is between the ages of 6 and 16 years old, they must attend education. If you are having difficulty obtaining a school placement you can contact the Education Welfare Officer (EWO) for support. The Transition Year (TY) is an optional one-year programme between the Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate programmes. Children and Irish Language Primary and secondary education is free in Ireland. Alternatively, there are private fee paying schools Children who were born outside of Ireland and or lived abroad for a period of time, may be exempt from the study of Irish. That may also apply to children with certain disabilities. Special Needs Education Special needs education means the special educational arrangements which are in place for children with disabilities. Education for children with special needs may be provided in mainstream classes in mainstream schools; in special classes in mainstream schools or in special schools.
