A Definite Answer to Prayer 1:20

. No nation on earth offers its people more freedom, more equality than does the United States of America. Yet there are forces at work in this country which would rob us of religious and political liberty. THE CONVERTED CATHOLIC MAGAZINE discusses, ob jectively and factually, the dangers which threaten you and every American. Get the facts. Read THE CONVERTED CATHOLIC MAGAZINE. Subscribe today. Samuel was a definite answer to a mother’s prayer. Being childless (v. 5), Hannah had poured out her soul unto God for a man child (vv. 10-19). The desire for children was especially strong among Hebrew women. Children were considered a great blessing. Then, too, there was the secret hope in the hearts of the mothers of Israel that they might bring fqrth the Messiah or Deliverer who was expected to come sometime to bless the nation. When Samuel was born Hannah did not forget that he was a direct answer to prayer. The very name she gave to her babe was a testimony to that remembrance. “ Samuel” means asked of God. Every time she would call his name a witness would be borne to the God who answers prayer. Many times God’s children forget to thank Him for the answers to prayer they receive. At other times they enjoy His blessings as commonplace things and fail to be thankful. These attitudes must displease our heavenly Father. Hannah’s Beautiful Dedication 1:24-28 At a tender age Hannah brought her child to the house of God. Early in his life she wanted him in contact with the place and things of God. She provides a splendid example for all mothers from that time to this. As soon as possible mothers (and fathers) should seek to have their children under the influence of God’s house. At the time of our les son the house of God or Tabernacle was located in Shiloh, in central Palestine. Later it was removed to Jerusalem. As she came Hannah brought an offering unto the Lord. Again she has set a good example for all the followers of the Lord. No longer do we need to bring bullocks or lambs. The Perfect Sacri fice has now been offered once for all so that no other sacrifice that entails the shedding of blood needs to be brought. But God’s children now can bring other offerings for the support of God’s work. In this passage, Hannah again re members that her child is the answer to her prayer (w . 25-27). Then she fully dedicates him to the Lord (v. 28). The text says that she “lent” him unto the Lord for as long as he would live. The usage of this word does not mean that she expected to take him back to herself as we do when we use the word lend. She used this word lent because it is another form of the same word she had used when she asked for him of the Lord. This little play on words serves to remind us that whatever any of us may dedicate to the Lord was first given to us by Him. God’s Call To Samuel 3:1, 16— 4:1a It was a time of spiritual need (v. 1). The word 'precious as used here means rare. There was “ no open vision,” that is, there was no publicly known prophet JUNE, 1 9 5 2
