It's here! The 2025 Hospitality Training 360 Report by CHART + Opus
The full report includes detailed benchmarking data, including training hours, budgets, and formats across different employee roles, as well as case studies from leading brands on innovative training approaches. Key findings include: Budget accountability rises: Training teams tracking operational metrics were twice as likely to receive budget increases. Training time decreases: Ongoing training for FOH hourly restaurant employees has decreased to just one hour per month (a 40-58% year-over-year drop), forcing operators to maximize efficiency during limited training windows. AI creates competitive advantage: 72% of restaurant L&D professionals report AI improves their work quality, with proficient users completing projects up to four times faster than basic users. Only 8% consider themselves advanced AI users. Back to basics movement: 61% of restaurant operators prioritized basic job skills training (a 25% increase from 2024) as industry professionals refocus on core service skills amid increasing guest expectations. Trends, takeaways, and insights to guide your training programs

The day I returned home from Louisville (after attending the CHART 107 Conference), I dragged my heavy suitcase up two flights of stairs and put it in the guest bedroom/office. As I began to unpack the suitcase, I came across items that I put away for safe keeping such as the worksheet I completed during Justin Patton’s opening keynote (tucked into a signed copy of his book), competency workbooks (I have completed all four competency tracks now…yay me!), and a really cool gift (I won’t

give it away because it will be worn in Redondo). As I was finishing up, I came across a small spray bottle I received at the AHELI booth in the resource gallery that can be used to clean your phone and computer screen with an attached felt pad that you use to wipe after applying the spray. There were so many things I learned, such as using AI to write objectives during the instructional design process and $25 per month software that can create AI based character versions of actual people for training purposes (thanks for the Training High 5 tip Jack Wozniak of MojoFuco and Toro Toro Toro), yet this spray bottle stands out.
I almost didn’t grab one because I wasn’t sure what it was. When Jennifer Bonilla explained its simple use, my mind was blown. I realized that as I was physically unpacking, I was mentally unpacking as well. It is important that just as you put away the books and notes, to not forget the small spray bottles because all learnings, whether big or small, are just that…learnings. Plus, now that I’ve unpacked, there is room for more!

This virtual "Beyond the Screen Share: Elevating Virtual Training" session brought together trainers and partners from Buffalo Wild Wings, Dairy Queen, Toro Toro Toro, Red Roof Inn, Sheetz, New Perspective Senior Living, ELB Learning, Blue Phoenix Learning, and Crunchtime. Key takeaways from the cross-segment learning: Using a shared living document to capture collective wisdom, participants exchanged valuable insights on transforming traditional classroom training practices into effective virtual experiences. ( Click here for the shared doc ) The group explored innovative approaches, such as incorporating
Mike Andrew's suggestion of giving "virtual Ferraris" as digital rewards to structuring thoughtful breaks during long sessions. Game- based learning principles, suggested by Jack Woznick, sparked discussion on building enthusiasm and participation in virtual environments. Emily Pitts and Paul Kizilos shared their successful flipped classroom model, while Tori Benyo shared valuable insights on mentoring virtual presenters. While California members were unable to participate due to the ongoing emergency response to devastating fires in their region, their input helped shape the session's framework and goals. This RTF demonstrated CHART's spirit of collaboration and knowledge-sharing.
