world” (1 John 5:4). The company of the regenerated are not divided into two groups, of which one overcomes and the other does not. Every regenerated soul is an over comer. Our really being born of God guar antees that we shall overcome the world. John has affirmed this fact without the slightest qualification, and John knew. The president of one of the largest banks of New York said that after he had served for several years as an office boy in the bank over which he now presides, the then president called him into his office one day and said, “ I want you to come into my office and be with me.” The young man replied, “But what do you want me to do?” “Never mind that,” said the president. “You will learn about that soon. I just want you to be in here with me.” “That was the most memorable moment of my life,” said the great banker. “Being with that man made me all that I am to day.” What must the disciples have received by being with Jesus!— Sunday School Chronicle. The Heavenly Home R evelation 21 :l-7 Memory Verse: “ I go to prepare a place for you” (John 14:2). Approach: Last week we talked about how the Lord Jesus helps tired people. He told them that H,e would make their bur dens easy to bear if they would only come Golden Text Illustration 1 J o h n 1:3 it today, for it is something very wonderful. Lesson Story: Jesus told His disciples before He left them that He was going to prepare a place for them, that where He was, there they should be also. This place is the heavenly home where all those that truly believe Jesus Christ is the Son of. God who came into the world to die for the sins of the people and bring them back to God, shall live. The Bible tells us a little about this home. It is to be a place where God shall dwell with His people. And all of the sorrows and the troubles of this earth shall be passed away. No one shall cry, for “ God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain.” What a wonder ful place this is which Jesus has promised to all who believe in Himl And when shall we reach this beautiful home? Jesus has told us that, too. He said: “ I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” We know what Jesus has promised, He will do. to Him. We learned that we, too, can come to Him, through prayer, to have our burdens arranged so that we can bear them. This was one of Jesus’ promises to His people. He made another promise to them, too. W e are going to talk about

that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely” (v. 6). He who possesses these truths experimen tally is the overcomer. We have to turn back to the Epistle of John to learn who the overcomer is. He is the one who has fellowship with God in light, and who believes that Jesus is “the Son of God” (1 John 5:5). The natural legalism of the human heart would have thé “over coming” to be the result of the believer’s strenuous struggle to combat sin within the life. But sin is overcome only by the blood of Jesus Christ which is applied in its full power and efficacy by means of simple faith and not by works of any sort. Points and Problems 1. “Which we have heard . . . seen . . . looked upon . . . handled” (1 John 1:1). In this remarkable description of the divine Object of Christian faith, the writer testi fies to the importance of the incarnation of God in Christ. Doubtless half a century had passed since John had stood with the other disciples and heard the risen Christ say: “Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have” (Lk. 24:39). John never forgot that memorable experience. The Gnostic theologians of modernism may discount the value of the body, may question the fact of the resurrection; the followers of Mrs. Eddy may deny altogether the reality of sense experience; but the testimony of John still stands. The eternal God has entered humanity, has become incarnate forever. 2. “ That ye also may have fellowship with us” (1 John 1:3). Perhaps there is no more crucial problem before mankind than to find some way to bring men together into an unbreakable bond of fellowship, not only with God but with one another. Once this object is accomplished, all other prob lems will be solved. For centuries men have been trying to establish fellowship on various bases, such as race, language, eco nomic interest, or the ideal of world broth erhood. But all such bonds as these are brittle things and break down easily under the impact of personal selfishness. There is only one place where lasting fellowship can be established: that is, in Christ, the eternal God made flesh. This is the very heart of John’s argument in his first Epis tle. It is not enough to believe in God. Neither will it suffice to believe in a merely human Christ. Not until humanity finds a Saviour who -is both God and Man will its age-long problem be solved. And, thank God, we have such a Saviour. 3. “ A ll tears” (Rev. 21:4). This is the only answer to the oft-repeated query as to how the saved could possibly be happy in heaven if they knew some of their loved ones were eternally lost. The God that we worship is able to wipe away "all” tears. How, we do not know, but we know that He will. 4. “He that overcometh” (v. 7). This condition, laid down many times in the Word of God, has troubled some believers. How can we know that we belong to this group who are overcomers? The Apostle John himself has supplied the answer: “What soever is born of God overcometh the
