“Knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep” (Rom. 13:11). The day of God’s longsuffering is rapidly drawing to a close, and the day of wrath is at hand. The wheels of divine government are moving onward with a rapidity truly soul-subduing; human affairs are working to a point. There is an awful crisis ap proaching; precious souls are rushing for ward along the surface of the stream of Time into the boundless ocean of Eternity. In a word, “the end of all things is at hand” (1 Pet. 4:7). Now, seeing these things are so, let us ask each other: How are we affected thereby? What are we doing in the midst of the scene which surrounds us? How are we discharging our fourfold re sponsibility to the Lord, to the church, to perishing sinners, to our own souls? — C. H. M ackintosh . DECEMBER 11 How Tall Are You? "Love . . . hopeth all things” (1 Cor. 13:4, 7, R.V.). We often use the word “overlook.” It is one of the keys to forgiveness. There is a flower garden with a high board fence around it. If you are tall enough, you can overlook the fence and enjoy the beauties behind it. The Magdalene came to Jesus for forgiveness. The men about Him could see only her poor, sinful life. Jesus could look over what they saw to what lay be yond. Many of us have never grown tall enough to overlook. We need to pray that we may grow into “the measure' of the stature of the fulness of Christ.” — The Pilot. DECEMBER 12 Into the Holy o f Holies "Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus . . . through the veil, that is to say, his flesh” (Heb. 10:19). The veil is rent: our souls draw near Unto a throne of grace; The merits of the Lord appear, They fill the holy place. His precious blood has spoken there, Before and on the throne: And His own wounds in heaven declare, The atoning work is done. Within the holiest of all, Cleansed by His precious blood, Before the throne we prostrate fall, And worship Thee, O God! — S elected . DECEMBER 13 P u re Love “ God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Rom. 5:8). When we wish to know the love of God we should go to Calvary. Greater love never has been taught than that which the cross teaches. Christ laid down His life for His enemies, for His murderers, for them that hated H im ; and the spirit of the cross,
