AROUND THE KING’ S TABLE [Continued from page 421] plainly declared that he used the words which the Holy Ghost taught him: “Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spir itual things with spiritual” (1 Cor. 2:13). “Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth,” was the statement of the Lord to Jeremiah (Jer. 1:9). The Lord not only put His thoughts in Jeremiah’s mind, but He also put the very words on Jeremiah’s lips. In the second place, we should study the Bible because we are admonished to do so. “ Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Tim. 2:15). Christ taught that the result of our searching of the Scriptures should be that we shall learn of Him, for “they are they which testify of me” (John 5:39). We should study the Bible in a way that will win God’s approval. A third reason for our study of the Bible is that thereby we will grow spiritually. “ As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby” (1 Pet. 2:2). Every Christian should seek to grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. The secret of growth is to feed on the Word of God. Christians who study their Bibles prayer fully and obediently are growing Chris tians. No child of God should be satis fied to remain in a state of spiritual infancy but should aspire to grow into spiritual maturity. Further, we need to study the Bible in order that we may have spiritual discern ment. If ever in the history of the world there was a time when Christians needed to have a spiritual discernment, it is in the present hour. We need to be able to dis cern the difference between that which is from God and that which is from Satan. There are books in which truth and error are blended so skillfully that even Chris tians are fooled. We need to discriminate between that which is spiritual and that which is soulish. Many are unable to make this distinction. Christians who have come into a religious service that is purely soulish go away saying that they have been spir itually edified. The cause of this inability to detect the difference is a lack of spiritual insight and of knowledge of the Word of God. W e need to be Scripturally instructed and spiritually minded if we are going to cope efficiently with the problems of the day. Finally, we need to know our Bibles in order to be able to help others. If a soul under conviction should come to you for enlightenment, would you be able to lead that soul into an experience of salvation and the assurance of salvation? Certainly every child of God ought to be so familiar with the Word of God that he can intelligently point a seeking soul to the Lamb of God. We should be able to help spiritual babes, and we should be able to be a blessing to those with whom we come in contact day by day. Only of the Lord can it be said:

“ I AMGLAD IAMA LEPER”

said this venerable old man. “ For if I had not come to a mis sion to lepers I would never have found Christ.” To him and to hundreds like him, “ finding Christ” is worth more than the medical help and care they re ceive. It takes little imagination to see these sick and broken people, bodies scarred, pain wracked and deformed, countless numbers seeking admission each year. Your heart would bleed to hear them plead. Think of us who must re fuse them because there is no room. Are you thankful enough to give to a leper seeking Christ and Salva tion tins Thanksgiving? - The American Mission to Lepers, Inc.
