ANTOAN DE SENT EGZIPERI: NEBESKI PRINC ANTOINE DE SAINT-EXUPÉRY: PRINCE OF THE SKY

In the world history of aviation, the names of pioneers such as Amelia Earhart or Charles Lindbergh will remain forever, but among the deserving ones we must not forget the best pilot among writers

I t is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye – this timeless message comes from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, author of wor- ld-renowned fairy tale for adults the little prince. This bo- ok marked many childhoods and is one of the best-selling works of all time. We have already mentioned him in this issue as a fa- mous author born in Lyon, but what is interesting, and often not so well known among the general public, is the fact that Exupéry was not merely a French writer, dreamer and lo- ver of good words, but also a pilot. He was an adventurous spirit who loved heights and challenges. His immense love of flying is perhaps best illustrated in the titles of Exupéry’s books, such as The Aviator, Night Flight and War Pilot. Although his excellent talent for writing saw his fami- ly and friends encourage him to engage in literature and gi- ve up piloting, he did not listen to them, and so he died in a plane. His aircraft was shot down over the Mediterrane- an by Germans on 31 st July 1944. The westernmost capital of Europe - Lisbon, which Air Serbia flies to twice a week, is definitely my recommendation
