Most lubricants are not visible in water unless concentrations are greater than 500 ppm. That’s more than 10 times the typical regulatory limit!
• Be careful! That’s the oil-to-air ratio. • When compressed into liquid condensate, that 1 – 2 ppm becomes 300 ppm or more .
3 Penalties for Violating EPA Regulations
Chicago, Los Angeles, and New Orleans all have a maximum 15 ppm oil carryover in condensate discharge water. 15 ppm
Negligent Violations: First conviction: 1 year in jail and/or $2,500 – $25,000 per day Subsequent convictions: 2 years in jail and/or $50,000 per day
Knowing Violations: First conviction: 3 years in jail and/or $5,000 – $50,000 per day Subsequent convictions: 6 years in jail and/or $100,000 per day
