Dangerous Water
A water main broke on Main Street just in front of the Jewel Radio station in the early morning of April 29 keeping the Hawkesbury Water Works crew very busy, and some residents without water.

Rivers are moving fast with higher than normal levels, strong currents on and beneath the water surface, and the water is still very cold. There is also debris floating on and below the surface of the water, causing added risk. Residents should be aware of the dangers present at the edges of rivers and open water as the ground is muddy and unstable. It is easy to slip and fall into the water. The OPP strongly urges adults to watch their childrenwhen near any body of water, and to take the time to properly educate themof the dangers of being around water.
Along with the spring thaw comes fast and dangerous water.The risk of falling in and being swept away is particularly high this time of year, especially along the rivers’ muddy edges.The Hawkesbury OPPwants to remind residents of the risks of open and fast moving water and to stay safe. Due to changing weather conditions and continued thawing of lakes and rivers, there has been a change in both water levels and water flow of lakes and rivers in the surrounding areas.
Break and Enter in Alfred-Plantagenet The Hawkesbury OPP is investigating a break-in that was reported on Monday, April 20, in Alfred- Plantagenet. Investigating officers found that two men broke into a shed on Concession 7 in the early morning of April 19. The thieves left the scene with two 16-inch Poulan chainsaws, one green and one orange. The matter is still under investigation and police is looking for the public’s help.
