Reaching This Generation with the gospel
Social Media "Skibidi Rizz." Two seemingly mean- ingless “brain rot” words (as today’s generation calls them) that surpris- ingly became a tool for eternal impact. Halfway through the 2024 summer camp season at The Ridge, Word of Life’s middle school camp in New York, a Bible Institute student who was serving as the camp's Social Media Specialist, created an Insta- gram reel poking fun at adults using middle school slang. The reel went viral and gained over 6 million views. A couple of weeks later, the student who created the reel was standing on The Island boat dock chatting with a friend about the reel. Another woman on the dock overheard the conversa- tion and asked her if she had made that reel. When she said yes, the woman shared that her son had seen the reel on his Instagram feed, looked into Word of Life, and signed up for camp on The Island (the summer camp for his age group). During his time there that week, he heard the gospel and accepted Jesus as his Savior. The mom was now standing in line at The Island boat dock, getting ready to cross the lake to watch her son be baptized. 85 years ago, no one could have imag- ined a social media post or a soccer game as platforms for sharing the gospel. Yet, both avenues and so many others perfectly align with Jack Wyrt- zen’s vision when he said, “It is the responsibility of each generation to reach their generation for Christ.” Let these stories serve as a reminder to take every moment, every platform, and every connection as an opportunity to share the gospel with those around you.
