Although other remote-control dragon fl ies exist, BionicOpter is the fi rst to mimic the function of a plane, a helicopter, and a glider in a single device. Despite its complexity, BionicOpter can be operated easily and intuitively through a smartphone. Flapping frequency, amplitude, and installation angle are controlled by software and electronics — all the pilot does is steer. To stabilize the BionicOpter in fl ight, data on the position and twisting of wings are continuously recorded and evaluated in real time.
