This session will also feature Huma Lodhi, Principal Machine Learning Engineer, Sky, providing a deep dive into AI’s real- world applications that are optimising operations and unlocking new business opportunities, and Hardeep Dhaliwal, Head of Data Capability, ITV, discussing how to make sure AI is getting the data it needs. The three will then come together for a panel discussion exploring what can be learnt from real-life case studies and how they can be applied to wider scenarios. The huge topics of IP and monetisation are also in focus today with two more big-hitting sessions. First up, Clive Santamaria, Chief Architect, ITV, and Ian Wagdin, Senior Technology Transfer Manager, BBC, will explore ‘The Evolution of Live Production: Where are we on the transformational IP journey’. This will be followed by Gamechangers in Media: Content and monetisation’, featuring Johannes Franken, Director of Digital, HBS. Franken will examine the state of the art in immersive technologies, their affinity with sport content and how new monetisation concepts can be developed. The aim is to uncover innovative ways to enhance the viewer experience and drive revenue growth. Once again, the IBC Conference will also feature presentations on the IBC Technical Papers, which showcase world-renowned, peer-reviewed original research delving into solutions to real- world industry challenges. This year’s programme, running throughout the Conference, will include papers on sustainability, AI in production, audio & speech, provenance, streaming, XR, advances in video coding and 5G. Conference delegates will also be able to enjoy an exclusive roundtable session with Maria Rua Aguete, Senior Research Director at OMDIA, in the Delegate Lounge on 14 September. The second day of the Conference features keynotes offering CTO Perspectives and a look at the
opportunities and threats around AI. In the first CTO Perspectives session, Phil Wiser, Executive Vice President and Global Chief Technology Officer at Paramount Global, will assess the winners and losers in the changing broadcast and streaming landscape and consider what business models will drive long-term monetisation. This will be followed by Girish Bajaj, Vice President of Prime Video & Amazon MGM Studios Technology, speaking on ‘Building a Future Ready Tech Stack for an Evolving Media Landscape’. In the afternoon, a joint keynote fireside chat entitled ‘At the Intersection of AI and Creativity: Why the future lies in human- machine collaboration’ will see Sachin Dev Duggal, Founder and Chief Wizard at Builder.ai and Andy Hood, Vice President of Emerging Technologies at WPP, debate how we can ensure a fair and ethical approach to AI while benefitting from the opportunities it offers in terms of creativity. With 2024 being a year of elections across the globe, ‘Combating Disinformation in News: A critical year for democracies’ will be both timely and fascinating. Ross Dagan, Executive Vice President & Head of News Operations and Transformation, CBS News, will discuss some of the most critical challenges in areas such as content provenance, the detection of fake news and images, and the authentication of reality, to help audiences identify trustworthy news and information. Another Day 2 session that promises to be a big Conference draw is ‘Olympics 2024: Technology to broadcast beyond expectations’, featuring Israel Esteban, Chief Technology Officer at beIN Media Group and James Miles, Senior Director of Live Event Workflows at NBC Sports. They will discuss the tech used and lessons learned at the Paris Olympics and ask what that means for the future of sports broadcasting. The Olympics is also in focus on the third day of the Conference. ‘AI in Action’ features three case studies that will provide a deep dive into the technology’s real-world applications that are optimising operations and unlocking new business opportunities.
