FROM THE INDUSTRY
What are you hoping to achieve at ANGA COM this year?
What key territories is Netceed focusing on with the fibre roll out, and how do you handle so many territories with their various local idiosyncrasies? Global reach is one of the pillars of our overall strategy. At present we operate in 19 countries; not yet as global as we’d like to be. But it is still very much in line with our focus in European and North American space today; it’s important to be close to the customer, it’s important to be very close to where the real activity takes place. Hence, expanding our geographical reach. The idea behind the acquisitions was really to provide empowerment within those boundaries, yet also have in place a centralised, competing centre and structure, in order to allow our partner teams to take full advantage of our skills and experience available in other markets. It’s the best of both worlds; centralisation while maintaining sharp focus close to where the business is actually taking place. These days broadband is really a global business, a global phenomenon. I can’t imagine anyone who doesn’t need it and does not see it as a global opportunity. Therefore, there is an opportunity for global players to make the most of it, and that’s what we’re aiming to do.
Your own career trajectory has been astonishing. What do you enjoy about this industry? To what do you attribute your success? First of all I was grateful for the opportunity to satisfy my natural curiosity; that was my primary driver. From the very beginning, I wanted to learn and discover new things technologically, and get to know people and cultures. With the job I have and the business we are in, I’m able to do both, perfectly complementing my innate natural tendencies. How did you get started? Initially I was an R&D engineer in Turkey building broadband solutions, working over copper lines. DSL wasn’t available back then. It felt like magic. Then I got involved in the rollout of the first mobile data networks. I was utterly gripped by the possibility of connecting people by taking advantages of physics and mathematics. Once I developed a bit of expertise, I wanted to share that expertise globally and in the process, I connected with people in different countries and cultures. That was fascinating to me. I put it all down to my natural curiosity and my natural need to learn and connect with people.
First of all, it’s always a pleasure to be at ANGA COM and to reflect on the evolution of the show over the last ten years or so. I’ve been coming here for almost two decades. I remember it being a very specialist event, both regionally and technologically. It’s fantastic to observe how it has expanded into one of the leading European shows, covering so many different technological domains, as well as the entire broadband industry. What we want to achieve at Netceed in general is in line with what we want to achieve at ANGA this year. Which is? Obviously, we are working towards our goal of becoming the global leader in value-added telecom distribution. A fully integrated, plug-and-play supply chain platform; that is the vision and our value proposition to the industry. We are sharing it at every opportunity available, and ANGA COM is a fantastic opportunity to make that statement.
