Revolutionising Critical infrastructure Access Control with Digital Solutions

Introduction From viaducts to data centres, for as long as humans have been building infrastructure, we’ve been trying to find a perfect solution to the same puzzle. How do we set up an access control system so that: 1. It’s easy for the right people to access the right locations, at the right time, to do the right job

Now, these mechanical locks in turn are being replaced by digital solutions that are reliable, flexible, and easy to manage and audit. However, this transition from mechanical to digital solutions raises questions about usability, adoption and the integration of new technologies into existing security frameworks. These questions will need to be addressed before businesses across telecoms, energy and water make a firm commitment to a technology.

2. Unauthorised people can’t access restricted areas at any time

The rise and fall of mechanical solutions

Over the millennia, our solutions have evolved alongside technology. The simple act of paying armed guards to watch the doors slowly gave way to basic locks, which were eventually replaced by networks of key cabinets and logbooks.

Mechanical locking systems have long been the backbone of physical security, providing a straightforward method of access control through physical keys and locks. While they’re reliable,
