DUNLUCE LODGE, PORTRUSH
THE GLENARIFF FIRM’S ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION AT THE LUXURY PROPERTY BESIDE ROYAL PORTRUSH GOLF CLUB INCLUDED BESPOKE LIGHTING SYSTEMS, ALARMS AND CONTROLS… HAUGHEY ELECTRICAL ‘PARS’ NEW FIVE-STAR NORTH COAST VENUE
Dunluce Lodge, the North Coast’s first five-star hotel, was completed earlier this year ahead of The 153rd Open returning to Royal Portrush in July 2025. Situated alongside the fourth fairway of the world-famous golf club in Co Antrim, the £16.5m project was delivered by main contractor Martin & Hamilton Construction with Haughey Electrical Limited sub-contracted to complete the electrical installation. The property comprises 35 luxury suites, a small spa, a private lodge with eight suites, private dining and a fireside lounge space, and a restaurant and bar overlooking Royal Portrush and the Irish Sea. It also features a wine vault, private helipad and nine-hole putting green designed by Martin Ebert. Haughey Electrical’s installation included the supply of small power, data, TV, lighting, fire detection, CCTV, access control, intruder alarm and lightning
protection, with a team of 12 working on the project. Innovative features of the project included integration of specialist control and alarm systems around several remote buildings, while bespoke lighting systems and controls were used throughout the project including a UPS system controlling amenity lighting. With the project a five-star hotel development, it required very high-quality finishes and equipment throughout for a high-end and discerning market. Haughey Electrical’s experienced team enjoyed delivering the demanding, high- calibre finishes, and ultimately found it very satisfying to see the finished product. The construction project spanned November 2022 to January 2025, with the luxury hotel opening to the public the following month. Supporting the local economy by
employing a team of over 60 staff, Dunluce Lodge is operated by Valor Hospitality Partners, a global, full- service hotel management company in partnership with its US owners, the Links Collection. Based in Glenariff, Co Antrim, Haughey Electrical is a family-run business and significant local employer in the rural Glens area. Under its apprenticeship programme, six to seven new recruits are employed every year, rising to 13 in 2024 due to an increased workload. The programme gives many young people the opportunity to continue to work in the local area, helping to preserve the local community. Among the team working on Dunluce Lodge was fourth-year Electrical Installation apprentice Leah Henry, who was named highly commended Apprentice of the Year at the Causeway Coast and Glens People Awards 2024.
