From autumn 2021, the route to solicitor qualication is changing. In the future, any graduate, no matter what they studied, will need to sit and pass the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE)*. The LPC will cease to exist in the new regime. The SQE is not a course but a centralised assessment taken in two stages: SQE 1 and SQE 2. SQE 1 tests your legal knowledge and SQE 2 assesses practical legal skills. You’ll also need to do two years of qualifying legal work experience (like a training contract) and pass a character and suitability test. How can you prepare for the SQE? We’ve got you covered. Together with ¿ve other top law ¿rms, we’ve partnered with BPP University Law School to create the market-leading City Consortium Solicitor Training Programme. For law and non-law graduates, it will provide the very best preparation to pass the new SQE assessments, and give you the knowledge and skills you need to start your career at our ¿rm. Your training As always, we take your development seriously. So we’ll make sure your training is engaging and thorough, giving you the con¿dence to hit the ground running. You’ll be supported by BPP’s expert tutors and state-of-the-art educational technology. The training programme will consist of: – A law conversion course for any non-law graduates – Postgraduate Diploma in Law (PGDL)

*There will be a transition period for the introduction of the SQE.We currently intend that the ¿rst intake of trainees to have studied our new programme and sat the SQE will join us in 2023. However, that timing is subject to the Legal Service Board’s approval of the new regime and further information from the SRA on logistics, such as assessment dates. Until we introduce our new programme, future trainees will continue to study our bespoke accelerated LPC at BPP.

For non-law graduates, you’ll be able to study the eight-month PGDL at one of BPP’s centres around the country. To help you get ready for working life in the City, you’ll then complete the rest of the training programme in London and study alongside your
