G reen B uildings 20 buildings totaling more than one million s/f in MD St. John Properties achieves Leed-Certification

ALTIMORE, MD — St. John Properties, Inc. has earned its 20th

certification from the Unit- ed States Green Building Council (USGBC) for satisfy- ing Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) requirements and elements in the construction of commercial office buildings. The buildings, totaling more than one million s/f of commercial office space, have all been constructed in Maryland since 2009. Con- tained in five different counties, 19 of the 20 the projects have earned either Gold or Silver certification. The most recent St. John Properties building to earn LEED certification is 8160 Maple Lawn Blvd., a four-story, 105,000 s/f class A office build- ing in Howard County. The company’s first LEED-certified project was Melford Plaza II, a four-story 150,000 s/f class A office building located in the Melford business community in Prince George’s County. Eight buildings in the company’s Government and Technology Enterprise atAberdeen Proving Ground (The GATE at APG) have earned LEED Gold or Silver certification. Buildings have been certified in USGBC- defined categories of categories Existing Building, Commercial Interior, Core & Shell and New Construction as defined by USGBC. Eight LEED-certified projects have been constructed in Harford County, four each in Baltimore and Howard Coun- ties, and two each in Carroll and Prince George’s Counties. According to research from the Maryland Chapter of the United States Green Building Council, twenty represents the largest number of LEED- certified buildings developed by any company in the State of Maryland. St. John Properties has an additional ten build- ings in review or completed through design review that will be constructed to LEED specifications, and another eight that are in the process of design documentation. Ev- ery building the company has constructed since fall 2009 has been designed and constructed for LEED certification. “In today’s marketplace com- panies increasingly demand sustainability and environ- ment-friendly features in their corporate real estate,” said Jerry Wit , senior VP, Market- ing for St. John Properties. n
