A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 7

It was a pleasure to invite Keira E (7EFR), Charlie M (7EMA), Ella R-J (7SGR), Aaliyah B (7SSA), Sophie L (7PWA), Miriam FLJ (7POR), Anna D (7FCO) and Anna C (7FAD) to a ‘Cookies and Drink’ gathering on Tuesday morning. These students were nominated for their positive and enthusiastic attitude. The Waldegrave canteen cookies are widely recognised as being some of the best on the planet and it was nice to acknowledge the excellent attitude of our students in this way. A photo of myself and the named students is attached here. Tuesday evening saw the Information Evening for parents of next year’s Year 7 cohort. Eden TM (7FCO), Flo V (7FCO), Daisy J (7SSA), Jessica S (7SSA), Leah T(7EMA), Abigail BL (7EMA), Rachel B (7SGR), Flossie H (7PWA), Malaika M (7PWA), Gabby V (7POR) and Yuka H (7POR) acted as Year 7 Ambassadors on the evening and I know that the parents appreciated the warm welcome offered by the ambassadors and the benefits of their Year 7 experience. During Science lessons, Year 7 have been set the task of constructing a ‘nest’ using only paper and tape for their ‘egg’ (water balloon) in order to have a fun Summer challenge that simulates what mechanical engineers do. All classes were enthusiastic and got stuck into this challenge, and in 7SAS Marie, Yasemin, Elizabeth and Elsie managed to drop theirs from a staggering height of 8.2m without their balloon breaking! Well done to everyone for their amazing efforts. 7FAD have accumulated an impressive 158 house points this week with 7PWA (74) and 7POR (42) following in second and third positions for the week. Congratulations to Bea W, Violette M and Hannah A (all 7POR) who raised a whopping £96 for the Lepra charity by holding a cake sale. A huge thank you to all contributors to this worthy cause. The Lepra fundraising continues and students have been issued an envelope for any cash contributions that you might want to make. Should parents wish to donate online, please do so via our JustGiving Page. We will soon be offering parents the opportunity to come into school for a tour led by our Year 7 students. More details will be issued shortly. Please can I remind parents that students are not allowed to wear any makeup. Additionally, I must emphasise that nearly all social media platforms have a minimum age beyond that of Year 7 and so students should not be using sites such as WhatsApp, TikTok etc. I recommend that parents discuss this with their children to help protect them from any cyber issues that invariably arise.
