Carved from roughly 600 pounds of creamy goodness, this life-sized sculpture has been turning heads and warming hearts since 1911. The Butter Cow is now an icon of Iowa creativity and tradition, and no State Fair visit is complete without paying homage. Of course, the Fair is about more than food or fame (or butter). It’s a full- on celebration of Iowa’s heritage, community spirit, and a little healthy competition. Whether you’re watching the high-stakes livestock shows, tossing cow chips like a pro, or cheering on a future innovator at the Kids Makers Market, you’re part of something special. And for a dose of classic nostalgia? Don’t miss a ride down the Giant Slide or a float through the historic Ye Old Mill.
