Matthew grew up in Japan, then moved to the United States to attend Brown and Stanford Universities. He returned to Tokyo almost 15 years ago to join Sony Corporation for audio research. Watching Google IPO and Facebook launch, Matthew got the “startup itch” and recognized a large language barrier that needed to be broken down. Gengo launched in December 2008, and has notable investors including Mitch Kapor, Point Nine Capital, and Atomico.
