The Whale The Whale,” officially Out of the Blue, is a playful blue whale sculpture in Salt Lake City’s 9th and 9th district. Created by artist Stephen Kesler, it’s a quirky neighborhood landmark and a favorite local photo spot. Tracy Aviary A premier bird sanctuary nestled in Liberty Park in the middle of Salt Lake City, Tracy Aviary was founded in 1938 and stands as one of the oldest and largest freestanding aviaries in the United States. Home to roughly 400 birds across 135 species, from flamingos, toucans, eagles, pelicans, macaws, vultures, cranes, and condors, Tracy Aviary is a major hub for conservation and education. Salt Lake Bouldering Project Located inside the historic Granary Campus near the Evo Hotel, the bouldering facility spans 8,000 square feet of bouldering terrain. Open daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., the facility offers $20 day passes and is beginner friendly. Often praised for its accessibility and supportive community, the Salt Lake Bouldering Project is the perfect place to visit if you want to get some climbing in.

Salt Lake City Public Library (Downtown Location) Both a stunning architectural landmark and an epicenter that houses diverse programming, workshops, digital access, and hundreds of thousands of books, the Salt Lake City Public Library is a vibrant community hot spot. At the downtown location, you’ll find a beautiful rooftop garden/terrace that offers panoramic views of the city skyline and Wasatch Mountains. This special site also includes murals, seating areas, a seed library, a community garden, and beehives that produce honey for local events. Gilgal Sculpture Garden A whimsical, off-the-beaten-path public green space exhibiting original statues and engravings, Gilgal Sculpture Garden is one of a kind. Featuring 12 original stone sculptures, the garden is intended to be a contemplative riddle. Gilgal Sculpture Garden is Utah’s only recognized visionary art environment. Open daily, the garden is free to the public and offers three acres of discovery and mystery.

City Creek Center A mixed-use open-air shopping and dining destination in the heart of downtown, the City Creek Center spans two city blocks and is located near the Salt Palace Convention Center. Housing over 100 retail stores and more than 25 food and drink options, City Creek Center is a mall with a parklike atmosphere. If you need a last-minute item for the gala or want to take yourself on a shopping spree, City Creek Center has plenty of options. Pierpont Avenue Known for its independent, artesian atmosphere and historic warehouse-style buildings, Pierpont Avenue offers a mix of boutiques, local cafés, barbers, tattoo artists, and more. At this funky stretch, you can find handmade gifts, studio-crafted goods, and a less commercial shopping experience.

Trolley Square Originally built in the early 1900s, Trolley Square served as a streetcar barn for Salt Lake City’s electric trolley system. After ceasing service in 1972, the area now houses a mix of boutiques, popular national stores, and eateries. Trolley Square also has unique features paying homage to its rich past, including the Trolley History Museum, a vintage trolley car display, and more. Everything Utah Located at 311 S. State Street, this gift shop specializes in authentic Utah-made products. From locally made art, jewelry, and souvenirs, this shop houses products made by local artisans from across the state.
