afternoon. Year 8 took part in an entrepreneurial challenge with the organisation 8 Billion ideas. Year 9 had the opportunity to visit a variety of iconic London attractions including London Zoo, The Victoria and Albert Museum, London Dungeons and The London Eye. Year 12 loved having the opportunity to take part in a special 6th Form Sports’ Day. It was lovely to see students have the opportunity to enjoy having fun with the peers whilst learning new skills. We have run a number of other trips out of school this week. A group of Year 9 students attended the Faith Direct event hosted at Orleans Park School to hear from local faith leaders. There were also a number of A Level trips. Our Historians visited the National Archives at Kew to learn more about Tudor rebellions, handling original Tudor documents as part of a workshop to complement their curriculum. Our Photographers visited the Photographer’s Gallery to gain inspiration for their coursework whilst our Artists visited the Hayward Gallery and Tate Britain this week to find inspiration for their coursework. Our Year 12s attended the World of Work workshop hosted by the Worshipful Company of World Traders which helped them prepare for the world of work. Our Year 10 students have also had the opportunity to learn more about the world of work as they have been out of school on work experience. The students have secured an exciting range of placements and I am looking forward to hearing all about these when they return to school next week.

A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 10

This week, with all of our students off on work experience, it has been relatively quiet, but we have been busy calling their employers and conducting site visits to see how everyone has been getting on and what new things they have been learning. Work experience can be a valuable learning opportunity for your child, giving them a taste of the working world and helping them explore future career options. It also helps develop important skills like communication, teamwork, problem-solving, time management, and responsibility. We hope that succeeding in a workplace setting will give your child a sense of accomplishment and boost their confidence. We can’t wait to have them all back next week and hear all about their experiences. Clodagh M and Sophia S in 10SHO represented Waldegrave at the Fulwell Girls Golf Invitational on Monday, 24 June. Both girls completed an 18-hole competition with Clodagh coming in 2nd place. Clodagh and Sophia have shown impressive progress since taking up the sport over a year and a half ago, inspired by their PE GCSE. On Thursday, 27 June, three students from Year 10, Anna B, Isla D, and Isla P, represented Waldegrave at the Ogden Trust inter-schools physics competition and came very narrowly second by one point. They performed exceptionally well in both the quiz and the practical competition, where they had to design and build a balloon-powered vehicle. Last Friday, we held a Sports Day with a huge effort from the PE staff, who were very ably assisted by the fantastic PE prefects and House Captains. All their hard work fostered a wonderful team spirit in each of the house areas. Many staff members commented on how well the students did in seamlessly organising the younger competitors. Next week, we will have our termly celebration assembly, where we will present subject awards, top epraise scorers, attendance awards, and DofE awards. We will also unveil the new Head Girl and her Deputies for the next academic year.

MRS ROOK, HEAD OF YEAR 10

BOOK OF THE MONTH

Crossing the Line by Tia Fisher

This verse novel won the Yoto Carnegie Shadowers Choice Award, chosen by young people across the country. A powerful novel, Fisher explores how teenagers can be swept up into county lines, based on a true story. It’s moving and believable, keeping the reader hooked.
