A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 7

Last Friday, Year 7 experienced their first Waldegrave Sports Day. The conditions were perfect, showcasing a lot of athletic talent. The enthusiasm of the participants and their supporters truly made it a day to remember. Alongside traditional athletic events, fun activities like the skipping race and egg and spoon race ensured everyone could get involved, regardless of their athletic abilities. Participation was the key focus, with every student earning points for their house.

In form time this week, Year 7 shared their favourite books, which we’ll compile and send as recommendations to our incoming Year 7 students for their summer reading.

As we approach the end of the house point race, leading the way this week are 7FLE, 7PUN, and 7EST. Keep up the good work, everyone!

On Thursday, we had our whole school Drop Down Day, where the normal timetable was suspended. Year 7 took part in a fun creative project that tested their music, drama, art, and food skills. Working in groups, they devised a new smoothie and prepared a ‘Dragons’ Den’ style pitch about their product. The day involved attending various workshops, from creating a jingle and performative pitch in the performing arts department to establishing thoughtful branding and designs with the graphics team. We hope that these sessions have helped students build their self-confidence, teamwork and presentation skills. We look forward to hearing the pitches in an assembly next week. In the afternoon Year 7 enjoyed an inspirational presentation from Hannah Knowles from the organisation The Art of Being Brilliant. The theme aimed to support student confidence and empowerment.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

Safiyyah’s War by Hiba Noor Khan

As Setti once said “this is not goodbye, this is just see you later.”

Despite this book simply being words on a piece of paper, quotes like this can change people’s lives. This book is for anyone: people who have lost a loved one, people who are suffering through a war, people who love travelling. It is a powerful book about the importance of caring for other people, no matter who they are, what religion they are or what they believe in life.
