Every boy contributed to the success of the team over the season, with incredible catches, direct hit run-outs and committed fielding making the difference in a number of games. Played 12, won 6, lost 6. Final position: 4th, Year 9 Division 1. This did not detract from the eagerness of the boys, however, who were all looking to make an impact on College cricket and bond as a team by playing together. By the time the season was cut short due to the Covid-19 lockdown, the team had won one game and lost two. Term 4 was a huge improvement, with the team playing some exceptional cricket. It was safe to say their love for the sport had not been lost over the off-season. First game back saw College play North West and take a very convincing win – scoring 281/7, and bowling out North West for 138. This success continued with a win against Riccarton High School, who had previously beaten us in Term 1. The match rewarded Felix Bowden with a fine century hit off the final ball of the innings. A game against Sydenham tested the boys’ character, as they had just returned from the Year 9 camp. With College bowling first, Sydenham scored a total of 248/7. Unfortunately, College fell agonisingly short in their bid to chase down the total – however, their never give up attitude was apparent across the whole game,

the opposition. Unfortunately, the team was too inconsistent and often in a hurry when batting, however, and this proved to be their undoing. Jackson Garry ended up top scorer for the season, followed by Nicholas Sharr. A special mention to Callum Fox for a couple of gutsy batting performances throughout the season. Overall, the boys represented themselves and the school extremely well, and will look to grow and develop as cricketers in the years to come. Special thanks to John Garry for his efforts with the team.

and testament to the courage and commitment of each of the boys. In Term 4, the team won two games and lost two. It was a massive improvement, and I am amazingly proud of their efforts.

As I write, the T20 Bulls team have just played their second to last game and have one to go. The team is led by captain Ash Cassidy and vice-captain Gabriel Gallaway. Despite a disrupted season, the boys have still managed to enjoy some good cricket games. The T20 Bulls team have achieved mixed results, winning two of the six games they have played so far. Ash and Gabe have led from the front, contributing to the scoreboard at key moments in the games and being dangerous with the ball in hand. They have shown leadership and positively motivated the team. Another special mention must be made of George Helmore, who has proven himself to be effective with both bat and ball. There have been many moments of triumph by individuals and personal successes. It has been a pleasure to support this team as they develop their skills and confidence in the new T20 format. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the team’s strong support crew, who have stoically occupied the sideline, supporting and celebrating the thrust and parry of the game.

YEAR 9A WHITE CRICKET Manager: Devonie Eglinton Coach: Richard Laing Team: Angus Eglinton (co-captain), Ben Laing (co-captain), Paddy Cochran, Oscar Compton-Moen, Murphy Dargue, Frankie Meates, Benji Nation, Aston Nijjar, Wills Ockwell, Hunter Shore, Ashwin Thomas It was a pleasure to be involved with College’s 9A White team. The boys put in great effort on the field every week, and created an inclusive, positive team culture. The loss of a few teams from the premier Year 9 grade over the year left a small pool of very strong teams, which made for high quality matches during the season. Team highlights include a very close loss to a stacked North West team, and an emphatic victory over the talented Christchurch Boys’ High School 9A Blue side. While the boys claimed victory over College 9A Black in Term 1, this was unfortunately not to be repeated in Term 4 – a testament to the even spread of talent across the two teams. There were a number of individual highlights and personal achievements, including a five wicket bag in the final game of the season for Benji Nation.
