JUNIOR 1ST XI FOOTBALL Manager: Claire Nicolson Coaches: Kevin Guttman, Jack Lindo Team: Tavor Abraham, Sam Aitken, Edward Bodie-Healy, Matthew Brett, Nicholas Brown, Wilby Cameron, Lucas Evans, Jake Hayes, James Lange, AJ Madondo, Lucas Maguire, Thornton Reid, Nicholas Sharr, Jack Slater, Austin Smith, Lewis Whiteside, Nick Wilson, Nicholas Winefield, Lucca Wiseman The Junior XI 2020 season was slightly different from previous years. As a result of a new initative with the Ferrymead Bays club and the 14A team’s entry to the Canterbury United Development League, the Junior XI consisted of a much wider squad. This allowed for improved cohesion between training sessions and games, as players were able to learn and develop within a specific philosophy. The mixture of Year 9 and 10 players turned out to be an ideal balance, particularly in trainings and games where physicality and leadership were highly encouraged.

vs St Andrew’s College The 2020 season finished on a happy note, with a win in the play-off for 3rd and 4th. Although College conceded a goal within the first few minutes of the game it was a pretty ordinary first half. The team regrouped at half-time, made a couple of changes, and soon found a bit more of a spark, showing grit and determination to find a way to fight off the StAC attack and press their advantages. Kosei Oikawa threaded a great pass to Charlie Cameron, who scored, and then Gabriel Gallaway added another to give College the 2–1 win. It was a good way to finish the season, celebrate the 50th cap for captain Kynan Salt, and send off the Year 13 leavers.

The season began with an emphatic win over Lincoln High School, and paved the way for a number of consecutive wins. College proved dominant and ruthless, with Lucca Wiseman and player of the season Lewis Whiteside regularly hammering in goals for the team. The squad consisted of several club players who, despite their training obligations elsewhere, were excellent, and transitioned into Wednesday school football extremely well. Versatile player James Lange shone with industrious individual performances and positive attitude, whilst the creative midfield play was led by Nick Wilson and AJ Madondo. The defence, hinging off Nicholas Sharr and Wilby Cameron, stood organised and compact throughout the season. Anything that managed to penetrate the backline was quickly swept up by goalkeeper Jake Hayes, who developed a taste for rushing out of the goal and tackling strikers. Dispatching teams throughout the season, often in free-scoring mode, College found itself in the final against Shirley Boys’ High School. The previous encounter had ended
