in a draw after SBHS competed in a rather physical manner. The final was no different, though it soon became evident that the most aggressive thing was not the opposition, but the wind. Playing against an extremely strong headwind in the first half, in which the wind blew the ball into College’s own goal a number of times, saw the team 0–5 down at the break. In the second half, a switch of ends and the boost of playing with the wind meant College firmly believed they could come back – and what an epic comeback it would have been. The team played on positively despite the score line and created a number of chances, however, it soon became obvious it was just not College’s day. The SBHS goalkeeper pulled out a number of incredible saves, and College also failed to hit the target at other times. Although the final score of 0–9 suggests a thrashing, College actually performed to a similar level as SBHS, but just could not cope with the conditions on the day. In every match it was clear each player gained vital experience going forward, and the coaches were proud to discover a lot of potential and a never give up attitude among the team.

The 2nd XI began the 2020 season in Division 2 of the 17th grade. After a late start to games due to Covid-19, the boys were definitely keen to get onto the field to showcase their skills. Right from the start, the passion for football that coach Ricardo Felitti felt and exhibited for the game positively infected us all. The only thing that tried to dampen our spirits was the weather, as right from the outset, the conditions we played in were often horrendous. After a few games we found ourselves playing comfortably and had some fantastic high scoring results, including an 11–2 thumping of Nomads United, where both Jake Cutler and Archie Franks each went in for their second hat-trick of the season. We had some hard games, but we managed to keep on top, and spirits were most definitely high. The boys gelled well and began to develop in terms of technique, tactical positioning on the pitch, and awareness of what they could do better for the team. Because of our solid wins, we were promoted to Division 1, where we found ourselves up against teams that weren't necessarily better than us, but who managed to somewhat shake our confidence. In all the games, we had chances to score, but missed opportunities. We did not always believe in ourselves and that gave the opposition the opportunity to keep possession of the ball and create more chances to score goals. Unfortunately, our winning streak ended here – and team manager Kate Morris was never to eat a "we must win for me to have a pie" pie again. The strongest and most enjoyable part of the 2nd XI squad was the friendships formed both on and off the pitch. The boys had good relationships with each other, the coach and manager, which was good to see even during the tough times. Many times they struggled to keep a smile on their faces when the results didn't go their way, but the shouts of support were always heard and the knowing pats on the back were just

standard. These boys didn't bother playing the blame game when things went wrong. We knew the boys could get there, but luck never seemed to be with us. At least the team got a couple of draws in the end. Although there were many notable performances this season, the prizes for the 2nd XI were awarded to Henry Eglinton and Harrison Lund. Henry was voted our footballers' footballer because of his high energy play and his consistent “can-do” attitude, even when he didn't agree with the team plan. Harrison was our most valuable player, as he always gave 100 percent on the pitch and was a natural leader for our boys before, during and after every game. The team’s golden boot was Archie Franks, with 10 goals scored. Being part of this team was a pleasure because no matter whether it was win or lose, these players were a great bunch of boys to spend time with. To the Year 13 leavers that are moving on, we wish you the very best.
