SENIOR XI FOOTBALL Managers: Callum Bell, William Bell Coach: Tom Tothill Team: Tom Tothill (captain), Aperahama Anaru-Astwood, Sam Barnett, Charlie Chubb, Henry Eglinton, Ben Evans, Jim Gibbs, Jenner Johnson, Mago Kawamura, Andrew Kwak, Fergus Laing, Austin Lamberg, George Lill, Ryan Liu, Harrison Lund, Owen Short, Henry Williamson, Josh Wynne The Senior XI side marked the second iteration of a wonderful return to College football. The team consisted of Year 13 students who just love football. Some were veteran players, some were newcomers, but all shared a passion for the sport which was exemplified both on and off the various pitches of the Wednesday football league. The managers made the decision very early on that this would be a student-led team, facilitated by staff. By the time the season was through, our vision had been realised. Capably led and coached by Tom Tothill, the students played some excellent football. Most importantly, the boys played with real integrity. Despite both wins and losses, the Senior XI consistently played fair; they were in the Wednesday league for the love of the game and they knew that all the other teams were, too. While they played a physical game, the Senior XI were gracious in their defeats and humble in their victories. In what can only be described as an unfortunate turn of events, the Senior XI narrowly lost to Riccarton High School in the semi-finals of the league, finally placing 3rd on the table. This podium finish was a fantastic result for the team, however. At the football prize-giving, George Lill was named the footballers’ footballer and Tom Tothill was named the team’s most valuable player. Working with the Senior XI in 2020 was a real honour and privilege. The staff can only hope to be involved with another team of their calibre. No matter what they head off to do next

in life, we all get the feeling that this football season will be one they will remember for years to come. Thanks gentlemen.

continued to vary, with a 4–3 win over Hornby United and a 5–5 draw against Parklands United. There was a respectable 2–3 loss to Ferrymead Bays and a not so respectable 1–10 loss to Christchurch Boys’ High School. The league then split into two groups of four and College then played St Bede’s College, Parklands United and Hornby United to finish with a loss in the plate semi-final. Highlights of the season included being 0–1 down to St Bede’s with 10 minutes to play, when goals from Lachie Short and a last-minute wonder strike from Bruno Davies secured a 2–1 victory; and the tight 5–4 victory in our first outing against Parklands, scoring late in the game when both sides were reduced to nine players. The season ended with another great game against a well drilled St Bede’s team, which resulted in a 1–1 draw. The resulting penalty shoot-out cruelly going against College. Our goalkeeper Sean Wu remained positive throughout the season, despite many challenging games where his skills were repeatedly tested. Results aside, the boys have shown great character and attitude throughout the year. Nicholas Brown showed a steady and determined approach in defence, while Will Bretherton and Lachie Short consistently and noticeably pushed forward confidently on attack. The boys came a long way in terms of individual skills and working together as a team.

Team: Tavor Abraham, Jonathan Barnes, Will Bretherton, Nicholas Brown, Nathan Cranstone, Bruno Davies, Hamish Falls-Anderson, George Hudson, Toby Jackson, George Kain, Luke Menzies, Edward Nye, Mason Ott, Greg Robertson, James Shen, Lachie Short, Sean Wu, Hugo Wynn Thomas Overall it was a positive season for the 15A team. The year began with the team entered into Division 1 of the 15th Grade. As we all know, the start of the season is always a difficult one for coaches and players as everyone is trying to get to know each other and learn to work as a team. After a humbling 1–8 loss to Coastal Spirit, the team was going to need to get going pretty quickly for the season to start properly. The team bounced back with a 5–4 win over Parklands United, then there were a couple of heavy losses by 4–7 and 1–7, before a 5–3 win over Selwyn United. Despite some competitive performances, the two wins–three losses record was not enough to keep the team in the top division. Moving to a more suitable Division 2 allowed the team to try and play the football they wanted to and compete in a way that is attractive to play and watch. It also provided the boys with the fundamental tactics and technical ability that will allow them to flourish
