MiC: Peter Cooper Managers: Olivia Austin, Elaine Tang, Teryl Yogeeswaran Coach: Aarleah Ufton-Tangaroa COLLEGE SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS There were 44 boys in the swimming squad in Term 1 and 29 in Term 4. Term 1 is always a busy time for coaches and swimmers alike, in preparation for the school swimming sports. A lot of support is provided by College staff in the lead up to and at the swimming sports – and a big thank you to all those who helped make the heats run smoothly. The school swimming championships were held at College on Monday 10 February. Individual Events Seamus Hickey swam strongly to become the U14 champion for 2020, with 69 points. Truman Heath was in second place on 52 points and Matty Hickman in 3rd place, with 47 points. Three new records were set in the junior championship. Daniel Bridgman was the junior champion with 66 points, and set new records in the 50m butterfly and 100m freestyle. A very close 2nd was Conor McCullough on 65 points, with a new record in the 100m individual medley, and Max Harris came 3rd with 48 points. This year's intermediate champion was Jacob Clements with 59 points. Santino Felitti-Duter was 2nd with 40 points, and Harry Greenwood 3rd with 25 points. James Currie set two new school records in the senior championship, in the 200m individual medley and the 100m breaststroke. He tallied 59 points to become the senior champion. NEW ZEALAND SHORT COURSE CHAMPIONSHIPS Year 10 athletes Conor McCullough and Daniel Bridgman travelled to Hamilton for these championships. They both swam many personal bests. Conor won gold in the 200m individual medley, silver in the 200m backstroke, and bronze in the 400m individual medley and 100m backstroke. Daniel won bronze in the 100m individual medley and 100m butterfly. Conor is to be commended for his selection to the New Zealand age group squad. After just a few days back at College, the boys returned to Hamilton for the New Zealand secondary schools’ championships. Both achieved more personal bests and represented College very well. College came 66th out of 128 schools with only these two athletes swimming.
with 55 points, and Kyle Houston 3rd with 36 points. House Cups Corfe House came 1st in the Sprint Relay Cup, followed by Condell's House in 2nd place. Julius House and Harper House were 3rd equal, and the Julius junior team set a new sprint record. In the Medley Relay Cup races, Corfe House was awarded 1st place, followed by Julius House in 2nd. The Julius House junior team set a new record in this event. Somes House placed 3rd.
