The highlight of the year was that both our Senior A and Senior B teams made it through to the South Island secondary schools championships. This remarkable achievement has really confirmed our place as one of the outstanding tennis schools in New Zealand. The greatest disappointment for our tennis teams this year was the cancellation of the national tournament due to Covid-19 disruptions. This was particularly disappointing for us as three members of the team – Liam Adams, Jenner Johnson and Nick Schneideman – were Year 13 students, and around these three players we had created the nucleus of a team that would almost certainly have reached the finals. The beginning of the year saw Year 10 student Liam Barrett join us from St Andrew’s College. He immediately earned a place in our top A team.

This year, for the first time, we entered three teams into the Canterbury secondary schools premier grade. Our greatest challenge in the last two years has been making sure our squad has all been getting meaningful matches. It was pleasing that School Sport Canterbury and the organisers of the South Island championships allowed us to enter additional teams into these events, as it meant the boys had tougher competitions. Altogether, we had three teams in the premier grade, seven teams in the B grade, four at Year 10 and three at Year 9 in the Canterbury secondary schools’ Wednesday competition.

In addition, we also ran a non- competition squad for both seniors and juniors coordinated by Susan Harding and Melissa Campbell. The top squad – consisting of Liam Adams (captain), Jenner Johnson, Nick Schneideman, Tom Downs, Nant Prachuabmoh, Nont Prachuabmoh, Nathan McKenzie, Jasper Johnson, Liam Barrett, Lucca Wiseman, Lucas Evans, George Brakenridge and George Austin – performed incredibly well this year. The goal was once again to qualify to be one of the top two teams at nationals and give ourselves a
