FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS MRes/PhD Programmes

1. BEFORE APPLYING: What Should I Know?

1.1.

Application Closing Date: As stated on the programme website.

Applications can be submitted as soon as the application system has opened.

Applicants are advised not to wait until near to or the application closing date to submit an application and supporting documentation. It can be 24-48 hours before an application is viewed by the department and if you experience any issues with submitting the application or uploading the documentation, Application Support may not be able to help which will result in your application not being completed in time.

Due to the volume of applications received for a limited number of places, late and incomplete applications received on or after the closing date will be rejected.

Curriculum Vitae

• Undergraduate Degree Final Transcript and Certificate (both documents must be in English and confirm final CGPA achieved).

• Postgraduate Degree Final Transcript and Certificate (both documents must be in English and confirm final grade achieved). - If you are currently studying a Master’s degree, an Interim degree transcript is required. This document should show marks/modules completed to date. If you then receive an offer of study the final degree transcript and certificate will be required before the start date of the programme.

• GMAT/GRE Score - No predefined threshold has been established, the score supports the application and forms part of the interview assessment.

• English Language Test Certificate - The University of Warwick requires all applicants to evidence that their English language capability is of a level that will enable them to succeed on their chosen course of postgraduate study. Therefore, an English language test certificate should be submitted with your application unless you meet the exemption criteria. Further details and accepted English language tests can be found here: English language information and entry requirements. To study at WBS Band B scores must be achieved.

1.2. Is a Research Proposal required? No

Do I need to find a supervisor prior to applying? No

1.4. Can I apply just for the PhD? No. The MRes programme must be completed before proceeding to the PhD programme.

1.5. Should I pay an application assessment fee? No

1.6. The application asks for funding information. What should I put? WBS Scholarship – fully funded.

1.7. What is the University’s GMAT/GRE upload code? 0806

Does it matter which email address I put on my application? Yes

Applicants using email servers/providers 126.com, 163.com, Sina.cn and QQ.com may have difficulty receiving email messages from the Admissions Service. Students should use their university email account or Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail or similar commercial email providers when making an application.

1.9. Once I have applied can I access my application? Yes

Once you have applied you will be given access to the Applicant Portal. Look out for an email to register your IT Services (ITS) account or visit ITS Account for Applicants.

This can take up to 2 working days from when you receive the acknowledgement email and Warwick ID number from the Postgraduate Admissions Service.

If you have difficulties logging in you will need to contact Application Support.

The Doctoral Programmes Office or PG Admissions Service cannot reset or resolve application access issues. All queries will be referred to Application Support.

I have forgotten my login details, what should I do?

The Applicant Portal has a ‘forgotten your password’ link which will email you a new password.

Please enter the password manually, as copying and pasting it can sometimes generate an error. If you do not receive the requested new password, this is because it is automatically sent to the email address you used to register an account and this will have contained an error. If this is the case, please register a new account with a different email address.

1.11. What happens once the closing date has passed:

Applications where candidates meet the programme’s academic entry requirements and all of the required supporting documentation has been provided on time will be considered.

If you are shortlisted for an interview, you will receive an email providing details on the next stage of the selection process.

Applications not selected for the next stage of the process will be rejected. You will receive an email from the Admissions Service notifying you via your application.

Your application status can be tracked through the applicant portal.

2. AFTER APPLYING: What Should I Know? 2.1. I have been invited to an interview – what next?

If you are shortlisted for an interview you will receive an email and calendar invitation to the email address registered to your application. The email will confirm

The date and time of the interview

• List interview documentation that will need to be submitted before the interview. If interview documentation is not submitted by the deadline, the interview cannot proceed.

Interview dates and times cannot be rescheduled so please must make every effort to attend the given slot.

2.2. What happens if I am not shortlisted for an interview?

Your application will be updated and you should receive notification from the University’s Postgraduate Admissions Service. You can also log into your application for updates.

2.3. If my application is successful and I receive an offer, what do I need to do?

1. Accept the scholarship offer from the Department. 2. Respond to the formal offer issued by the University. 3. Meet conditions of the offer (if given) by the University’s given deadline ( conditions will be outlined in the offer letter). - If you have any questions about the conditions of the offer, please contact pgt2@warwick.ac.uk. - Supporting documentation can only be uploaded by yourself via accessing your applicant portal. Documentation cannot be accepted via email. 4. Contact Immigration Service with regard to Visas/CAS. 5. Complete online enrolment activities before the start of the programme.

2.4. When will I receive programme information?

In the summer you will be invited to access the prograp mme’s pre-arrival webpages, which will contain all the information you need to prepare for your new programme at WBS.

2.5. Can an offer be deferred?

It is not possible to defer offers for WBS MRes/PhD programmes. If you are unable to enrol in October 2025 you will need to withdraw your application and apply at the next opportunity.

3. ENROLMENT: What Should I Know?

3.1. Where can I find out about enrolment?

Frequently asked questions relating to Enrolment can be found on the Warwick Enrolment website.

3.2. When can I enrol?

The University Enrolment Team will contact you by email with enrolment instructions approximately 4 – 6 weeks before your course starts.

I am having difficulty enrolling. What should I do?

The Enrolment Team have provided detailed Frequently Asked Questions. You should check this page first to see if there is a solution to your issue with the enrolment process. If you are not able to resolve your issue from the FAQS, you can contact the enrolment team.

4. OTHER QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE

4.1. As an MRes student, can I bring a spouse or dependents with me?

No. The first two years of the MRes programme is classified as postgraduate taught. Students on a postgraduate taught programme of study cannot bring their spouses on dependant visas.

4.2. Who do I contact about Student Visas/Immigration?

For information and guidance on Student Visas and all immigration matters please contact the Immigration Service. The Doctoral Programmes Office cannot advise or visa or immigration related matters.

4.4.

Who pays my Visa and Immigration Health Surcharge fees?

You will cover these costs initially. Once you have enrolled you can submit a claim and be reimbursed. Please keep associated receipts in order to be reimbursed.

Please note that if you make these payments then withdraw or do not enrol, these costs will not be reimbursed.

4.5.

How do I book accommodation?

To register for campus accommodation, you will need an unconditional offer.

Warwick Accommodation service manage the booking of accommodation for students at the University. There is information on the Warwick Accommodation website which discusses the different options available to Postgraduate students, the application process and when to expect a decision.
