OBTS_Celebrating 15 Years!

We opened April 28, 2003. Zero patients. Not a single one. It suddenly hit me… what if we don’t ever get any patients!! I still remember that feeling… on the one hand I was so excited with our newly opened practice, and on the other I was anxious.

We help people achieve unhindered lives.

We opened April 28, 2003. Zero patients. Not a single one. It suddenly hit me… what if we don’t ever get any patients!! I still remember that feeling… on the one hand I was so excited with our newly opened practice, and on the other I was anxious. Noel and I were both new to Valparaiso. Noel was still single at the time. I had Jane, my wife of 7 years, and Alex our daughter who was 3 years old. Jane was 7 months pregnant with our 2nd child AJ.

"My knee is much stronger!"

"Very positive experience!! "

"I am becoming more active!"

"What a pleasurable experience! Staff are all knowledgeable and attentive to each person's needs and capabilities. All this while making each person feel like they are the most important person in the room and one feels that they have been doing therapy with friends. The staff are all so personable. I can't imagine doing therapy in a more comfortable and welcoming environment. Thank you all making therapy an experience to look forward to. A BIG THANK YOU to all!!!" -Tom Olsen "A BIG THANK YOU to all!!!"

“Very positive experience!! Staff is great. Upon starting here I could not stand straight. Most days pain prevented me from standing straight. Now no pain. The pain that remains is intermittent and at that is very tolerable. I had numbness in my right leg upon standing for a few minutes. Now the numbness and burning have improved and it is not as severe as before. I am happy we found Orthopedic and Balance. They have made life easier. I highly recommend this for anyone who has issues.” -Warren Benko

"I was diagnosed with arthritis in my right knee in early January. When I first came to OBTS I was in quite a bit of pain and had significant stiffness. My therapy has consisted of muscle massage around my knee, stretching, and strengthening exercises, ice and e-stim. The routine became more intense as time went on, but it's made a real difference. My knee is much stronger and I am very close to being pain free. The entire staff is very kind and professional. I feel great about my experience at OBTS." -Kathie Anderson

"I think we are giving me my life back. When I came to Orthopedic and Balance Therapy Specialists for treatment I was not getting around very well. As time passes, my mobility improves and I am becoming more active. I also feel better." -Diane Stassel

AVOID ACHES & PAINS IN THE GARDEN THIS SPRING Common gardening activities, such as digging, planting, weeding, mulching, and raking can cause stress and strain on muscles and joints. This is especially true for senior citizens and people who are normally sedentary. Different body areas such as the shoulders, neck, back, and knees can be vulnerable to injury dering gardening. These tips can help prevent injuries: • If kneeling on both knees causes discomfort in your back, try kneeling on one and keep the other foot on the ground. Use knee pads or a gardening pad when kneeling. • If kneeling or leaning down to the ground causes significant pain in your back or knees, consider using elevated planters to do your gardening. • Avoid bending your wrist upwards when pulling things or using gardening tools. Instead, keep your wrist straight and use your shoulder muscles to pull and lift.

• Warm up before you garden. A 10 minute brisk walk and stretches for the spine and limbs are good ways to warm up.

• End your gardening session with some gentle backward bending of your low back, a short walk and light stretching, similar to stretches done before starting.

• Change positions frequently to avoid stiffness or cramping.

• Make use of a garden cart or wheelbarrow to move heavy planting materials or tools. Be sure to keep your back straight while using a wheelbarrow.
