The by-law merging the two departments also includes expanding the firefighter’s eligibility up to 65 years old, modifications to the auxiliary program, and people 16 and older are now allowed to join as support members, contributing to the training, station maintenance and public safety education initiatives.

The Russell and Embrun fire services have now merged to become Russell Township Fire Services, combining the two centuries old fire departments.
