The most famous reference Bible in the English language ^Q Ícc^e/d Containing all the famous Scofield features Concordance Editions

by Arnold D. Ehlert, Th.D. Librarian ond Professor of Library Science, Biola Evangelical Sermons of our Day Edited by Andrew W. Blackwood It is hard to be different in issuing a compilation of sermons, but Dr. Blackwood has done it with this volume. He edits each of the thirty- seven sermons with a biographical sketch and analysis of the content and method of the message. Among the authors included are Harold B. Kuhn, Harold J. Ockenga, Leslie R. Marston, Alan Redpath, Clarence S. Roddy. It could be a good collateral reading text for homiletics classes and would be a profit to any pastor in studying the methods of some of our best con servative preachers. 383 pages; cloth; Harper & Bros., New York; $5.95. In a gift shop window were some ceramic figures—a little angel and a little demon. The little demon kissed the little angel and the little angel looked very much surprised. Then the little angel kissed the little demon and the little demon winked a sly know ing wink! This seems to illustrate a trend which has been going on for some time in areas where one would least have expected it. Through much of this book one senses a strange mixture of loyalties, with the Bible coming out second best. Evolution seems to be taken for granted. For example, “Many author ities believe that interspecific hybrid ization has played an important role in evolution. The list of hybrids in the Appendix, incomplete as it is, confirms their opinion. If hybridiza tion plays only a minor role in evolu tion, as some maintain, it is very strange indeed that there are so many vigorous, fertile hybrids in existence today . . .” James O. Busell, III of Wheaton College says in italics that there is no data which conflicts with the Gene sis account as interpreted in the con text of the author’s language and cul ture. This denies authorship by divine inspiration. He then states his accept ance of threshold evolution and affirms that Dr. Russell Mixter, Editor of the book and Professor of Zoology at Wheaton College, holds the same Evolution and Christian Thought Today Russell L. Mixter, Editor
