34 COVER STORY Recent research shows that some people view singlehood as a happy destination rather than a stop on the journey to marriage. Being alone does not make a person lonely, but the perception of being alone is what makes one lonely. Singles must invest in their singleness and that includes traveling, self-pampering, and enjoy dating life. Being content with singleness creates power from within, power we may never know we have.

50 SPECIAL FEATURE The meaning of the word Nusa Penida comes from Balinese, Nusa means island and Penida comes from two words, Ped and Ida. Ped means death and Ida means power. So Nusa Penida can mean an island that has a great deadly power. We will discover more about what you can do when you visit Nusa Penida, as the new rising star of Bali’s surroundings’ hospitality. As well as the newest Resort in Ubud, The Westin Resort & Spa Ubud. You can travel vicariously through our special feature stories.

82 NEIGHBORHOOD

88 Sanur is a seaside town in the southeast of the island of Bali, in Indonesia. Its long stretch of beach offers shallow waters. Colorful jukung fishing boats rest on the sand, backed by a paved cycling path. The Pura Blanjong temple is built from coral and has inscriptions dating from the 10th century. Known as the ‘old men’s town’, Sanur today is proving you that the nickname has been shifted. New beer gardens, restaurants, villas, hotels and residence areas are filling Sanur, and more people are heading its way when landed in bali. Sanur, now and then, still one of the best areas in Bali worth visiting.

Bandung, the third largest city in Indonesia. Quickly rising to be the ‘it’ destination for short getaway, especially for people living in Java island. curated by our amazing extraordinary team to inspire you what this Island of Gods has to offer. We continue to work attentively to keep inspiring you with beautiful, trustworthy and raw content of Bali and outside Bali. So what’s it go to do with this month’s issue? As you can see in our cover, the theme this month is “Bali Holiday Awaits”, and as it always is in the past, we try not to take one word’s definition literally. We broaden our senses and try to perceive pictures from everywhere. And when you live in an island where nearly every part of it is vibrant and charming, finding picture perfect things to observe and talk about is really easy. Like Billy’s story about this impeccable intimate villa in the heart of Seminyak – in which he admitted, was interesting to write about, pondering the tropical comfort of Beyond Bespoke Villa. Or Sarah’s piece when she traveled to Nusa Penida that has an unrivalled grace, a journey that she said have opened her eyes on many things in life. Or an interview with a remarkable hotelier who are masters in intriguing perspectives – giving us a sneak peek through their eyes, all in one article. Okay, we hear you. That quote up there sounds like a cop- out merely just because it has the word “pictures” in it. Can’t blame you – it’s true. But we’re referring to the big picture it tried to deny the existence of. The big picture is Bali and how great the year 2020 was – and for some of us, a year full of tests. In the past twelve months, we’ve presented you fragments, pieces and collages. Not all pretty. But now that we’re at the end of the year, all those pieces matter. It shaped us into who we are. Just a little reminder to be gentle with yourself right now. Remember that it’s okay to rest, to decompress, to disconnect for a bit. I know this season is hard for a lot of you, so please – hold pace for what you’re feeling, try to find a little bit of beauty in each day, and just give yourself the same compassion. You are needed here, and you are loved. Keep going. We just hope this issue fulfills its purpose as a big picture. We also wish that your respective smaller pieces with challenges, stories, achievements and emotions makes up for a wonderful year – as it did for us. Happy reading! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Few more days till 2021 we are all still standing. By all I mean all of you in this whole world. Please give yourself a pat on the back. Yes you did it. If 2020has served us anything, it has been a reckoning. An unprecedented shift in the way the modern world lives. This year, many of us have brought to our knees – hundreds of millions of lives affected by COVID-19, industries brought to a standstill, state borders and international borders closed, businesses shutting their doors indefinitely and ‘Zoom’ becoming part of our daily vocabulary. For many of us, we’ve either been forced to or had the opportunity to sit back, ask ourselves and reflect, “What do I really want to do? What meaningful connections do I want to have?” This year, however, the biggest project that time allowed us was to build our new website. One of the finest product of Farness Vini winery, Vigneti Del Salento, "I Muri" Negroamaro is an impressive wine which typically represents the modern style of Puglia.

THE DRINK OF FESTIVE SEASON: VIGNETI DEL SALENTO "I MURI" NEGROAMARO If you are looking for a fine classy drink to embrace the upcoming end-of-the-year festive season, we recommend you to look no further than Vigneto del Salento "I Muri" Negroamaro Puglia. Southern Italy is the toe, heel, and ankle of the Italian “boot” where we find the regions Campania, Basilicata, Puglia, Calabria, and Sicily as well as the distant relative Sardegna. There are scores of fascinating indigenous grape varieties here, different winemaking traditions and styles are defining each region, and the wines are often less expensive than their Northern counterparts. Puglia and Sicily are producing huge volumes of wine, and they are battling to be the second biggest wine producing region in Italy. The hot climate is reflected in the wines and they are famous for their inexpensive, full bodied, warm, and fruit forward red wines based on Primitivo and Nero d’Avola. One of Puglia's most renowned Farness Vini winery, Vigneti del Salento, produce what the world known as "I Muri"; a Negroamaro Di Salento which impresses many wine enthusiast with its power and structure. The full-bodied and voluminous red wine boasts a tangible semi-dry and fruity character, with well-recorded hints of chocolate and oaky flavours . It's a good, solid wine which ticks all the right boxes; well-balanced and shows some interesting tertiary taste such as leather and mineral. "I Muri" is best enjoyed with a plate of rich-flavoured meat- based dish; either juicy beef, scrumptious lamb or creamy pasta. PROMOTED STORY

EXPLORE NUSA PENIDA’ S BLUE BEAUTY: WARNAKALI DIVE CENTER

Established by a passionate French recreational divers, Warnakali is a five-star PADI-certified dive resort, presenting unique and upscale experience for those who wish to enjoy the rich underwater vista off the Shore of Nusa Penida Island.

Text: Billy Bagus Photos courtesy of: Warnakali Dive Center

Although the currents can be intense, Warnakali Dive Center instructors are fully familiar with all the spots in Nusa Penida and will guide you safely. On the plus side, this kind of current gives the opportunity to drift dives on the northern coast of the island, and to see many pelagic animals on more technical sites. Beside Nusa Penida, Warnakali Dive Center will also regularly dive at the Gili Islands dive sites of Padang Bay, Bali, for a day safari. And for special occasions for multi-day safaris to the sites on Bali's Eastern coast, including the USS Liberty wreck in Tulamben, Amed.

The creation of Warnakali Diving Center is initiated by Blaise Jaeger; a seasoned diver with collective thirty-year’ experience of exploring 5000 dive sites around the world. His ambition to offer an unforgettable and unique diving experience in Bali was rewarded, as Warnakali Dive Center has indeed joined the closed club of the PADI Five Star dive resort in Bali in less than two years, before taking another step forward in excellence in September 2020 by becoming an official PADI 5-star Instructor Development Dive Resort. Warnakali Dive Center provides state-of-art training facilities for their guest in form of their signature 3-meter-deep swimming pool. Perched about 40 meters high, it is an emblematic symbol of Warnakali's values that makes it

possible to provide very professional diving courses and training. The whole team of Warnakali Dive Center aims to guarantee a personalized welcome for each diver, whatever their level, not only to ensure comfort and safety throughout their stay, but also to offer tailor-made dives on the most beautiful dive sites in Bali--Nusa Penida. Why the reputation? Because here is the site that divers can often crosses with some rare beautiful species such as manta rays and regularly the sunfish or Mola Mola, amongst other gorgeous fish, corals, turtles, and incredible underwater ecosystem. The water is very clear and its temperature is around 26 ° C. In short, always expect pure pleasure to dive around Nusa Penida, whatever the season!

Their story starts with their first project in Seminyak called Infinity & Beyond. Fay and her partner, Felipe, fell in love with the tropical ambience of Canggu area and decided to establish a top-class getaway for travelers to stay in-between their holiday; and thus the Beyond Bungalows was born. Their love for surf, the island, and good accommodations birthed the best bungalows that are beyond bungalows.

SIX SENSE 1 Discover Bali one experience at a time, both in and out of the resort, on roads less walked and at your own pace. Jump on a surfboard, helicopter or yacht, focus on self-improvement, find inner peace or simply escape from the ordinary and have some fun. Six Senses Uluwatu, Bali has implemented a series of sustainability initiatives designed to reduce the energy, water and waste involved with every guest’s stay. They actively raise awareness in our local communities on being environmentally and socially responsible, and welcome the guests and hosts to learn more during their garden tours, meeting out friendly goats, learning about composting, and workshops in our Earth Lab.

2 GOOD MANTRA A stone’s throw from the surf, in the heart of Berawa, Good Mantra is set to bring prime produce, bright flavours and a good dose of community spirit to the neighbourhood. Chef Dom Hammond is behind the pans, dishing up wholesome plant-based eats, with a focus on unique ingredients from small local farms. Honesty is the name of the game here. Almost everything is made in-house, from nut-milks to granolas to zingy relishes and sauces, with the exception of breads from Baked, down the road. All-day breakfast offerings span sun-blushed tomato, avocado and herbed hummus on sourdough, vanilla buckwheat hotcakes and coconut yoghurt with seasonal fruit and granola. Lunch is about big-energy salads (young greens, say, with pennywort straight from Hammond’s garden, roasted baby spuds, sweet potato and sweet seed brittle) and sandwiches such as focaccia with layers of seasonal baked veg and a good slather of plant-based mayo. There’s a burger with a blackbean-and- herb patty, hand-cut chips – skins-on and double cooked for extra crunch – or a classic with a plant-based twist, the Mushroom Schnitty Parma sandwich will hit the spot.

HATIKU JIMBARAN 5 HATIKU Jimbaran is beautifully nestled right on white- sand beach of the famous Jimbaran Bay of Bali, where sunsets are the most magical. Try visiting for brunch, lunch or dinner, and you can enjoy the freshest seafood dishes in a clean, cozy and pretty restaurant, overlooking the Indian Ocean. They carefully preserve the real taste of “Jimbaran seafood spices” that has existed since Jimbaran Bay was only a sleepy, quiet place with a few local warung (local stalls) selling grilled seafood. As Jimbaran grew to be a famous place, the people who created the original spices are still around, and now they are part of our precious team members. The restaurant is a thought-by-heart venue from front to the back, while Muaya Beach is an upbeat, gorgeous stretch of white sand with unbelievable sunset, where world-renowned resorts are our next-door neighbors.

THE MENJANGAN 6 The idea behind The Menjangan was - like all good ideas - simple: to create the perfect nature retreat located in one of the most beautiful yet least visited parts of the wonderful island of Bali. The concept was to work in harmony with nature to establish an intimate boutique hideaway where guests can escape the outside world and share the natural beauty of Bali with their partners, families and friends. The resort is relaxed, casual and quiet, with the emphasis on restoring calm and simplicity to stressed minds and bodies, both on land in the forests of the West Bali National Park and under the waves along our world-class coral reefs. The Menjangan is run by its enthusiastic, positive and committed staff Family who follow a unique philosophy called PassionForLife. This sets them apart from other hotels and resorts. The result is a happy hotel team who offer genuine, enthusiastic 'from-the-heart' hospitality.

What starts as a personal journey turns into a lucrative hospitality project of Fay and Felipe. After landed in Bali several years ago and gets enchanted by the vibrant glow of Seminyak, the adventurous couple decided to build a ‘holiday house’ on the tranquil side of one of the island’s most renowned destination, and then the story of 'Beyond' properties unfold. Hellobali managed to chat with one of the dynamic duo, Fay and dig deeper into the brand; which has since spanned into three (soon to be four!) fine properties...

A lot of times, big life-changing stuff started with just a small, personal cause, and that's what actually happened to Fay and Felipe. "Our story starts with our very first project in Seminyak called Suites Infinity & Beyond, which was meant as our own holiday house" Fay explained. "At first the name Infinity & Beyond was a reference to a famous animation movie, the concept of ‘going beyond what you can imagine’ is the core of anything we do" After staying for a while in Seminyak, Fay and her partner, Felipe, fell in love with the tropical ambience of Canggu area and decided to establish a top-class getaway for travelers to stay in-between their holiday; and

private kitchen. Fay and Felipe effort to provide travelers and tourist with the best staying experience during their Bali vacation truly goes beyond their gorgeous bungalows. After two years of successfully running the first property, the couple expanded their influence to Petitenget by establishing Beyond Bespoke Villas. Designed as a cross between boutique hotel and private villa, Beyond Bespoke brings the best of both worlds into a sophisticated getaway. “After 2 years of operation, we understand the needs and wishes of our guests and really wanted to build something that can elevate their experience to the next level. Beyond Bespoke was created based on the vision of a perfect home for a family who would like to experience contemporary luxury for shorter or longer period and have all they need" Said Fay. There are different sizes of room at Beyond Bespoke Villas, which guest can choose depending on how many people are staying. There are 1, 2- and 3-bedroom options available; namely 1 Bedroom Love Nest, 1 Bedroom Loft Suite, 2 Bedroom Beyond Bespoke and 2+1 Room Beyond Bespoke. "Our most popular Loft Suite has a big private pool with open pool bar, an epic spacious living room surrounded by a lush garden,

thus the Beyond Bungalows was born. "I was already surfing a lot in Canggu and my partner is deeply in the custom motorbikes culture. Here we embrace the laidback surf mindset and chill take on healthy lifestyle, and turned out not surprisingly, we were very inspired to set foot in Canggu too" She said. "And it was only natural to build something cozy that’s close to our heart and personality" When it came to selecting location, Batu Bolong is apparently too busy for the couple's taste, so they choose the serenity of Padang Linjong – the little Ubud of Canggu to establish the Beyond Bungalows. Designed by the renowned Biombo Architects team, Beyond Bungalows is a very interior driven property; truly bohemian but with finest personalized touch for guest to stay and retreat in absolute peacefulness. Housed a total of 7 bungalows with 1 bedroom, each of Beyond Bungalows units is equipped with a private and stylish outdoor shower area and unique layout. There are two bungalows with an exotic bathtub, two king bungalows with their lavish outdoor shower that provide really cool vibes, and two twin bungalows which are perfectly suited for friends to share and offer a lovely pool view. The crème de la crème of this property is the luxury superior bungalow with stylish living lounge and

a dreamy outdoor bathtub and lavish bedroom in the loft" explains Fay about one of the Villa's most sought-out unit. "All the decorations are handpicked as are the indoor materials. Just like any other interior designer who has been collecting cool features, we were very happy that we managed to curate them and bring them all together into these private villas" . The name 'Bespoke' itself is chosen for a very specific reason, not only was every part of each villa custom made but they also want their guests to experience a stay that is tailored to their needs. Apparently there is still another exciting 'Beyond' project going on in the near future, and Fay is more than happy to share the current details. "We are actually currently developing a project that takes our luxury bungalow concept to the next level! Beyond Bayou is inspired by our Maldives travels in a very Balinese way - Bungalows with a private pool and crazy elevated timber roofs around a central oasis in the heart of Seminyak" said Fay. "It will even incorporate our first experimental restaurant concept, which will serve simple but special dishes that we’ve enjoyed around the world" Two very well-established properties, one exciting up-and-coming project, what next? It turns out that Fay and Felipe would prefer to do things slowly and didn't hesitate to take a brief rest. After completing Beyond Bayou in June 2021, the couple have planned

a half year off to travel and soak up new inspiration. "For us it’s all about quality instead of quantity. We’re also looking into other creative businesses" Fay explains. Built with great passion and taste, Beyond properties will definitely fulfill every travelers need for a good time rest and get soaked in Bali's wonderful vibe without any exception or hassle. CULTURE COMFORT INDULGENCE FOR THE SENSES Text: Billy Bagus | Photos courtesy of: Six Sense Uluwatu

F rom the very first moment, Six Senses Uluwatu has dedicated their effort to achieve sustainability and wellness all at the same time. Established on mid 2018, the resort is the only one to date in Bali that owns a 'Certificate of Sustainability'. Its terraces are landscaped with indigenous plants, and all the villas are built almost entirely of sustainably and ethically farmed timber. The resort also composts their food and bottles their own water which made from recycled grey water; not to mention organic kitchen garden which supplies most ingredients for their upscale in- house restaurants. Six Senses also support the 'local heroes' mentality, as vast majority of their staff consists of Balinese from surrounding villages. Speaking of 'surroundings', the area of Uluwatu is globally known as legendary surfing destination. Some famous brands held annual championships on its breaks; just beyond the yellow, soft-sand beaches. Six Senses is located in a more secluded area, but from here, you can still easily get to some gorgeous spots such as Padang Padang beach and the aforementioned Pura Uluwatu.

One can expect a magnificent staying experience with a fine touch of traditional Balinese village vibe at Six Senses Uluwatu. There are a total of 28 sky suites and penthouses and 75 cliff pool villas, which are all interspersed with lush vegetation for seclusion and accompanied by Guest Experience Maker. The Retreat and The Presidential Villa are sumptuous and stately. The villas are built incorporating local elements and culture such as carved wooden doors leading to a small courtyard area and ceremonial altar. Bamboo-weave rugs and contemporary- style furniture enhance the whole villa's eclectic interior with stylish yet grounded charm. Bathrooms have egg-shaped tubs
