THE K I N G ’ S B U S I N E S S so much about in these days; but there is coming into existence, in the very same way that that alliance has come:— there is coming into existence Interna tionalism, and it is not only going to control industry in this country, but in all parts of the world, and to fix prices. There are some industries in this city today that cannot “carry on” without consulting its workmen. The managers cannot fix prices for certain commodi ties until they have consulted the men who are going to do the work, as to what they ought to charge. This is evidence of how things are coming into force to make it possible for one per sonality to control all the Combines and all the Amalgamations and all the Leagues put together. The “beast” will also control reli gion. This is a most significant and solemn fact for us. This great per sonality that is coming upon the scene —if we read this correctly, and there is no other explanation that appeals to my mind than that some great personality is to come upon the scene to do it— he is evidently going to control not only material things, but also religion itself. Look at Rev. 13:15: “And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.” We may interpret specifically those words as at any rate symbolic of this fact—that this personality is going to control the religion of man. Are we, as ministers of Free Churches and other Churches, to come into alliance with unbelievers, and to have fellowship with them? It cannot be done. If we are going to be true to God and to His Word, some will have to stand aloof and outside. Then will come the boycott. We see how what is symbolized in these verses is working today in so many directions, and pre paring, so far as the Churches are con-

It has been manifest to all who hare considered the conditions, the move ments of the time during the last twen' ty years, that there has been a moving towards a combination of vested inter ests, a combination of what is gener ally termed as Capital. I may be mis taken, but it seems to me there is some thing of this in the great Trusts that are being formed and are planning branches in all parts of the world, and I am seriously concerned for small trad ers. But there you have a symptom of what must take place. What is the meaning, think you, of the continual combining, the joining, of Banks? Dur ing the last six months we have seen quite a number of big Banks joining together in a big combine. What does it mean? It means that a process is at work in the financial world, as in every other section of the human race, a pro cess of combining, of joining up, of bringing everything that has to do with their particular interest into one great union, so that things can be controlled in every direction. A well-known Amer ican, Chauncey Depew, has said: “There are fifty men in the city of New \York who could stop every wheel on the railroads, close every factory, and shut down every coal and iron mine in the United States.” Some time back, it was predicted that every industry in America will finally be owned and con trolled by one huge Trust. A scheme to that end was definitely inaugurated in Boston not long ago, Mr. Gillette, the well-known inventor, advocating a sys tem of world co-operation which will displace all Governments and hold all nations in its grasp, absorbing, con trolling and directing all industrial life, breaking down all barriers of caste and nationality, and combining all the peo ples of the earth for one common pur pose. There you have given to us a great plan. And on the other side you find that Labor is combining—not only the triple alliance that we hear
