They include a municipal solar project at the township sewage treatment lagoon, three small solar setups in the Village of Curran proposed by ML Solar Projects LP, two projects of ASM Solar LP in the villages of Alfred and Plantagenet, and one in the township for Sunny Curran LP.
More than half a dozen small-scale “green energy” projects may not be going ahead as planned in Alfred- Plantagenet Township because of a mass cancellation of alternate energy contracts by the new Progressive Conservative government. The lights went out for 758 renewable energy projects in Ontario when Greg Rick- GPSE UIFOFX.JOJTUFSPG&OFSHZ /PSUIFSO Development and Mines, announced July 13 that the Progressive Conservative govern- ment was cancelling their contracts. The decision follows up on an election campaign promise of Doug Ford, Ontario’s new premier, to reduce Hydro rates by 12 per cent through a variety of cost-cutting measures. All of the projects listed in the mass- cancellation of contracts had not yet reached their “project development milestones” ac- cording to the government news release. Both Rickford and Ford have claimed the cancelled contracts represent $790 million in combined savings for all Ontario ratepay- ers on their electricity costs. Rickford also stated that the government will introduce legislation to protect ratepayers from the costs of any legal fallout from the contract cancellations. Il croit que les sondages en ligne et l’utilisation de la tech- nologie sont importants pour impliquer les gens en politique. « J’ai réalisé que les gens n’ont peut-être pas le temps d’aller s’asseoir pendant quatre heures lors d’une réunion, mais s’ils ont un résumé de la réunion en ligne, ils s’impliquent et s’intéressent davantage à la politique municipale. » M. Sarrazin est un membre et un ancien président Club Optimiste. Il a été membre du conseil d’école et il a été impliqué au sein du programme d’habits de neige de la municipalité pour les familles dans le besoin. À la suite de la dernière élection municipale en 2014, il a été nommé président d’Hydro 2000, la compagnie d’électricité apparte- nant à la municipalité. « Durant mon mandat, j’ai vite compris le fonctionnement d’une corporation apparte- nant à une municipalité, puis j’ai développé un intérêt pour la politique municipale, a expliqué M. Sarrazin. J’ai commencé à participer à plusieurs réunions du conseil, y compris les réunions budgétaires 2018, et je me suis rendu compte que la municipalité pourrait bénéficier d’une personne qui a de la facilité à communiquer avec les citoyens. » M. Sarrazin a sauté directement dans la course pour la mairie, au lieu de se repré- senter comme conseiller, pour avoir l’image complète, être capable de siéger aux Comtés unis de Prescott et Russell (CUPR) et avoir plus de contacts à l’externe avec la province. Il croit que le conseil actuel n’a pas les bons agents de négociation pour représenter le canton à Toronto et solliciter des subventions auprès des CUPR et de la province. « Je sais que certains candidats font beaucoup mention de transparence, a-t-il dit. Pour ma part, je crois qu’il faut aller au-delà de la transparence et inciter l’impli- cation des contribuables, vu que c’est leur argent que l’on dépense. » M. Sarrazin est aussi conscient du fait que les candidats ont jusqu’au 27 juillet pour se présenter et il s’attend à ce que d’autres entrent dans la course. Actuellement, le seul autre candidat en lice pour la mairie est le conseiller Jean- Pierre Cadieux.
« Je crois que la politique municipale doit évoluer un peu au rythme de la technologie, estime Stéphane Sarrazin, qui a annoncé récemment son inten- tion de se porter candidat à la mairie d’Alfred-Plantagenet. On a maintenant la chance de rejoindre les contribuables directement, grâce à l’Internet et aux médias sociaux. »
