APPENDIX VII: OPEN SURVEY & BRIEF ON-SITE QUESTIONNAIRE RESULTS NAPERVILLE PARK DISTRICT INDOOR RECREATION SPACE NEEDS ASSESSMENT

INDOOR FACILITY INTERESTS A pool for swim lessons, open swim, etc. captured the highest interest among indoor facilities, with 956 respondents (82%) expressing interest, and only 142 respondents (12%) showing disinterest (Figure 10) . Additionally, results show high interest in a lap pool, with 903 individuals (77%) interested. Following closely are a walking/jogging track and health and fitness spaces, with 862 (74%) and 838 (72%) respondents interested, respectively. A water park with slides, tubes, etc. (N=782; 67%), and warm water therapy pool (N=775; 67%), also scored high on interest, but a slightly larger percentage of respondents indicated they are disinterested in these facilities, with 19% of respondents disinterested in a water park with slides and 15% disinterested in a warm water therapy pool. In contrast, gymnastics spaces and social spaces showed comparatively lower interest levels at 29% (N=333) and 38% (N=438), respectively. Facilities like the synthetic turf fields for soccer, lacrosse, football, cricket, etc., and theater and performance spaces exhibited a balanced interest spectrum with a significant proportion of respondents neither interested nor uninterested — 23% and 31% respectively. The data also underscores substantial neutrality in areas such as general program spaces, where 48% (N=553) of respondents showed interest but 31% (N=348) expressed neither interest nor disinterest (Figure 10) . Regarding additional facilities, respondents indicated interest in indoor turf fields for soccer and lacrosse, more baseball fields and basketball courts, and more space for gymnastics. Twenty-two respondents expressed interested in more tennis courts, about half of whom specifically requested indoor tennis courts. Another 20 respondents expressed interest in more pickleball courts and 16 would like to see a sauna, spa, and cold plunge added. About 15 requested more indoor children’s play spaces such as an indoor playground and others requested more gym courts for sports. Seven respondents requested more space for special needs recreation and 10 respondents requested an indoor climbing wall. A complete list is included in Appendix B.
